Ya, that's the same route I decided to go. I've talked to a couple race engine builders and most of them seem to say that on a stock motor, the shim is ok, not a great fix and especially not with the amount I have shaved. The cam timing gear is the correct way to fix it. Seems the 22re can benefit from some cam advance anyway.
