a/c & airpump/smog pump belt problem
Hello, first time posting so sorry if I'm doing this wrong
I've had an 88 pick-up for about 3 years now, 22R. runs amazing, no problems except it loses about a gallon of oil a day and, more importantly, the A/C-smog pump belt is gone. The previous owner probably removed it because the smog-pump pulley is froze solid. So for 3 years I've just accepted that there's no A/C. But this is a hot summer. My understanding of my options:
try replace the smog-pump (with a Cardone Reman 33-778??)
remove the faulty smog-pump and attempt to install an idler pulley in its place so that an A/C belt can be properly tensioned (where how and with what idler pulley though!)
accept the hot life and move on.
Any other ideas?? Please and thank you. I can upload photos if that's helpful.

If you live somewhere that requires smog, then the best thing is just to replace the smog pump. Another option is to take apart the smog pump and see if you can fix it. It might just be a seized bearing or something you can replace. There a plenty of these trucks that came with A/C and no smog pump. In those trucks there is an idler pulley below the compressor. You can probably find the brackets and the pulley in the junkyard so you can get rid of the smog pump.
