I have been trying to burp this cooling system for 2 hours now and it will idle fine, but as soon as I take it out and drive it, about 5 min the temp gauge will start going to hot, but when I pop the hood, the engine is not hot, its warm, but not hot like the gauge says. What could be the problem? I just got done doing headgasekt's on it.

did you let it idle with the radiator cap off until the thermostat opens so you can top off the coolant?

Yeah I did, I'm thinking I have a bad T-Stat, the lower hose is Ice cold, top hose is kinda warm, the temp after running for 20 min of the fluid is only 90 degrees. I have very hot heat tho, and when it idles the temp gauge stays right in the middle but when I drive it, the temp gauge jumps up.

when you burped the system did you see water flowing through the radiator when the thermostat opened to confirm the water pump is working?
might be a bad thermostat.

Sounds like a thermostat to me. Is the water pump working?

Brand new water pump and timing belt

I took out the Thermostat and boiled it and it was not opening tell around 200 degrees, so I picked up a 180 one and installed it, and same thing now, I let the truck warm up, and still the lower hose is ice cold, when the top one is around 190 degrees, and now I don't have heat were I did before.

I left the cap off, and parked it on my step driveway to fill it when it was running and it started spraying out the radiator. So I put the cap back on, and now the temp gauge starts getting to the hot point just sitting here, and now there is no heat.

When I did the headgaskets, I noticed some of that block seal / headgasket in a bottle crap that I think the customer put in, but I cleaned it up and got as much as I could out that I could see.

Also, what way does the cooling system pump on these? When I pull off the lower rad. hose, there is no fluid in there. Is pretty much dry, but when you pull the Thermostat out, it just gushes water out.

Had this same problem when doing timing chain on a 93 pickup. Ended up bleeding the system many times finally got a big air bubble out. Figured there was an air bubble in water pump preventing it from pumping.

did you get a thermostat with the bleed hole like the OEM?
and clock it at six o clock?

when you fill it leave it a little below the fill spout and let it idle until the thermostat opens and you can see the water swirling then top it off.

Does the 3.0 use the 2 hole stat?

The water pump pushes water through the engine block, heater core, and through the radiator. The water flows in the top of the radiator and down to the bottom hose where it meets the thermostat. If your bottom hose doesn't heat up you T-stat is not opening or you have no flow through the radiator because it's clogged.

Its a 95 Toyota Pickup 3.0 V6 Manual trans

I'm beating the block seal got into the rad. Because the bottom hose is ice cold and no fluid in it. And its a brand new Thermostat

Yup! If beating = betting. Any block seal stuff is nasty and not worth using, IMO.

This is not my truck, its in my shop and is a customers. So should the lower radiator have fluid in it if I pull it off right?

Yes. Once the lower hose is removed from the radiator, any coolant in the radiator should drain out.
