Auto hub to manual hub/stickey update
I checked the stickies for info but all the pages are gone so I'll start a new thread.
My current hubs say, "Automatic locking hubs" on them. I bought new manual locking hubs and want to swap them out, but I hear it's not so straight forward. Any suggestions or advice? Thanks.

What year truck do you have? There is a difference between ADD and Auto-Locking hubs.
Auto locking hubs are pretty easy to swap out, I swapped them out in my '85 in no time.

It's pretty straight forward, you need to get some parts to do it though. You will need (2)90214-42030 claw washers (4)43521-60011 54 mm nuts and (2)90215-42025 lock washers. Make sure you set bearing preload properly when reinstalling, that's it. Warn sells a kit that has all these parts but I found it cheaper at the dealer.

I'll refer you to a previous thread entitled,"to a particular vendor..." in regards to your last suggestion. The kit itself, however, is a great idea. I'll Google some when I get home.

He is just the main trail-gear drop-shipper I know... There are a few others that drop ship directly from trail-gear for a slightly lower cost than buying direct from trail-gear.

This is my hub. I don't think it's ADD

This is a pretty good write up on the wheel bearing preload procedure. It's not the FSM procedure but I've always used it and have never had bearing issues.http://www.off-road.com/trucks-4x4/t...ent-18322.html

Since its auto, its easy. Just take the old hub off, add the swap kit (two washers and a nut on each side) and put the new hub on. You can go ahead and do the wheel bearing if you want, but you don't have to touch it at all. I didn't when I did my swap, and I haven't had any issues.

There is a step-by-step floating around the internet that I used when I did my hub swap, but I can't seem to find it. Just google -Auto to manual hub swap.

Seabee, I've got an '88 4Runner 5 spd manual, 22re and it has automatic locking hubs which have failed for the second and last time. I bought some re manufactured Aisin manual hubs and will perform the swap shortly. I found a YouTube video using a Google search that demonstrates removal of a hub. Because of it I purchased a recommended circlip pliers from Sears and a brass drift off EBay. I got the required 2 washers and 54 mm nuts for each side from Wabfab. He sells a kit for replacing automatic hubs with manual hubs for about $45 that includes the nuts and washers for each side and a 54 mm socket. They were drop-shipped from Trail-Gear. After I had ordered the kit I was looking at Wabfab's web site and it appeared it may have been cheaper to buy the parts individually.
Based on Redbayredneck's comments I suspect you may only need one 54 mm nut for each side as there is already one present??? My understanding of the torquing procedure recommended in the FSM is it is required if the wheel bearings have been re packed, otherwise I assume you can merely torque the two nuts to final spec.
