Anyone have a write up on 1st gen rotor replacement?

I did this years ago on another 4runner and I remember it wasn't exactly easy. I have a manual but it's not helping me much.

Anyone have any links/walkthroughs?

It's for an 87' 4runner for those who are interested.

you'll need to pull the rotor hub assembly. The rotor is bolted to the hub from the back side. This involves removing the brake calipers/caliper bracket and spindle nut that holds the wheel bearings. May as well as pull the front and rear bearings out and inspect for abnormal wear then clean and repack them. Don't forget to replace the seal on back of the hub.

Pretty simple but it does help to Have The 54MM spindle nut socket the hammer and chisel is so messy .

I have never had problems getting the rotors off with a 1/2" air impact I have heard horror stories trying to break the bolts loose by hand.

Have the correct wheel bearing grease and the correct seals .

Do you have a extra vehicle if you need to replace any of the wheel bearings??

If you feel any rough spots or the feel loose or make noise you got lucky and caught that before it failed.

Packing wheel bearings is pretty easy but if you have never done it takes a little time to get it down correct.

Look at solid axle rebuild threads. Lots of pics and details.
