Another Clutch Question
#21
Declipse... Is/was your clutch slipping or was your trans not shifting???
I did not hear any mention of high revs or pulling problems, just that you had to shut the motor off to switch gears.
I am not gonna say your clutch is not bad, but I hope during your repair you plan to replace the pilot bearing. I have seen pilot bearings wear out and cause shifting problems without slippage.
If the pilot bearing is bad/worn it can cause the input shaft on the trans to continue spinning with the motor even thought the clutch pedal is depressed, resulting in moderate to severe shifts problems.

Fixed this some time ago. It wasn't slipping when engaged, just not fully disengaging. One of the spring holders on the clutch plate had broken and was banging around between the pressure plate and the clutch. That extra drag caused it not to release fully (effectively made the clutch disc 3/8" thicker or so at a single point where the broken piece was).
I did replace the pilot bearing, the clutch disc, the pressure plate, and the throw out bearing. I got went with the Marline 1200# setup.
FYI I substituted 3 guys for a transmission jack. 2 to hold, one to line up and put bolts in. That worked well. There was a fifth guy running around the shop on a creeper banging into things... but that is another story.
Anyhow, thanks for the comment.

Precisely what my truck was doing.
So I decided it was still a good idea to drive home on the 5 back to bakersfield from valencia.
then i spent the next two days in bakersfield heat on asphalt replacing the damn thing.
Fun times.
