I'd check the tightness on the ones you just pulled off.

Check that idler pully also.

Edit: Don't know if the 3VZ has an idler pully........

the WD-40 or belt dressing is used to rule out bad tensioners. If you spray it on the belt, and the squeaking goes away then its the belt, if not its the tensioner...

Its not a fix, never said it was

what should I try next?? New alt?? only thing i can think is that the bearing in it might be bad....but why would it be so inconsistent??

I hate just throwing parts at it, but I have to go on a long road trip in just over a week, and need to figure this out...

^Already done several times over, also cleaned all the pulleys with some solvent and an abrasive pad with no difference.....

Use a Toyota belt and be done with it. Even though I work at toyota, when I rebuilt my engine, the guy I bought the truck from had some brand new gates belts in the back that were brand new. I figured what the hell, if I can save 10 bucks might as well use what came with it. I used them. A week later the power steering pump belt started makin noise. tightened it, ok for another week. then I was at max adjustment, threw a yota belt on and never had a problem with it since. Same thing happene with the alternator belt. The only aftermarket belt I haven't had issues with is the AC belt. Regardless, they were replaced with toyota belts and I have not had a problem since. Even though the gates/carquest/wahtever number crossed to that yota number, they were all too long and You couldn't get them properly adjusted. With the yota belt It's got TONS of room to play and makes no noise at all.

Check the alignment of the alternator.
On my camaro's 454, the PS pump pulley is moved back about 1/4th of an inch from the harmonic balancer...
And, that thing just screams at low speeds lol.

Maybe during your hardcore torquing you managed to bend the brackets, and throw the alignment into whack.

So, the squeel is still there, every morning when i go start the thing (or if its been sitting for a long time and is cold) it lets out one of teh loudest most high pitch squelches I've ever heard.

Usually only last 2-10 seconds tho, then its gone for the rest of the day. But needless to say, everyone in my apartment complex doesnt' appreciate it.

I tried getting someone else to start it this morning and listen for where the sound is coming from, but its so unbelievably loud and high pitched I had no idea where it was coming from. My ears were also ringing for awhile afterwards....
