93'truck 22re/w tranny into an 87'runner
Hey guys.
just need to know if the engine and tranny from a 93' pickup would be compatible in my 87' 4runner. Going to pick it up in 10 days. any help would be greatly appreciated
thanks

on my '86, the engine sensor connectors and the wiring harnesses were not interchangeable with the later 22re's.
I think that the later 22re's have heated o2 sensor(s), egr exhaust temp sensor that's not on the '86 and older, etc.
the '93 will have the straight intake plenum and straight throttle body, get all that for sure, it's much better than the older angled intake, again, i'm not sure what the cutoff year for that change was.
if you don't have the straight intake, try to get the throttle cable off of the '93, it's a different length... you can make the angled intake throttle cable work by cutting the end of the cable off slightly with a dremel, and drilling out a kragen/pep boys cable barrel.
the straight tb passes ca smog, not sure how it'll work for Canadian smog check.

get the wiring harness and ecu, shouldn't have many hickups. The o2 sensors are different like OSV said. Luckily you don't have to worry about emissions. pretty sure the body plugs should be the same to tie the new engine harness into the dash harness. if not the plugs are simple enough to swap out if you can read EWD's
