86-95.5 Drive shaft Q?
Did these trucks ever come with a boot for the slip joints on the drive shaft to keep them from slinging grease absolutely everywhere?
I just did the clutch on my 87, and I could probably scrape off several pounds of the stuff off the underside of the cab. Every time I grease the rear one, a bunch slings onto the catalytic converter and smokes like hell for a few miles, too.

Don't separate your splines to check for damage before marking them for realignment. It can unbalance your driveshaft and do evil things.
And mine slings a little grease but usually only if I put a lot in. Like after I go stick it in the mud. I pump a lot of grease anywhere I can to replace lost & help clean joints. Not sure if I am doing damage or not with to much grease, but time will tell.

They always do.
You can use a thicker grease, Doesn't sling as much.
I just did mine (used replacement pilot shaft) with lithium grease to just push out the old stuff and it was everywhere.
I will redo it again soon with a nice molly before heavy use.

I guess I should clarify, the several pounds are from 25+ years of buildup, not from one greasing.
Still, it's annoying, and if there was a boot on there, I'd love to get one back on. Off to the parts program!
