Well everything seems to working fine, tomorrow I hope to be putting in the heli-coils. I was lucky to have a spot to do it in, my brothers pole barn, thanks Mike. Also I had some time available to do it. I hope to have all complete by Saturday if not Friday. I am already thinking about what mods I want to do, being that it is my daily driver, nothing to extreme.

I ordered the 2-part thermostat....something like maybe $27 at www.trdparts4u.com

have to type in that part number, otherwise i have no clue where it is on the site.

4crawler's site has been a resource for me as well on alot of things.....he's just genius with all that stuff...and gives compelling explanations too.

We found a drill that would fit and drilled the threads out(right angle drill would have been perfect), tapped new threads by hand. Inserted the Heli-Coils, tightened everything. I have an exhaust leak at the rear of the exhaust manifold, could the exhaust manfold be warped? Anyone have any thoughts on that?

The sensor on the goose neck, the wire broke, what is that for? It is located on the goose neck of where you insert the t-stat.

Besides that everything seems to be in order. Thanks to all who chimed in and offered advice and lent some knowledge, I am wiser and more confident in working on my vehicles after doing this. Was not as hard as I first thought. Scale of one to ten, I'd give it a five.

The manifold could be warped. Did you check it with a straight edge? Take a straight edge, run it across the manifold and then diagonally in an x pattern to check for warpage. It wouldn't cost much to have the machine shop resurface it.

I'm sure you already know this, but when installing the manifold, torque the bolts starting from the center and work your way outwards to ensure that it goes on flat.

Hope this helps you out!

Just a quick update: Besides the exhaust leak, which will be fixed soon, everything seems to be running great. I have almost 300 miles on the 4Runner since replacing the HG. I am very happy about doing this myself. Saved a load of cash and it seems to be operating fine.
