3vze Help
ok well i just picked up a 92 yota pickup. I have noticed that it has an inconsistant knock. it does it mostly at partical throttle and goes away when i give the truck more throttle. i have been driving the truck like this since i bought it a month ago and it has not gotten better or worse. have noticed after a while of driving it that at 4k the truck has run out of power. could just be cause its stock and the cam does not make power after 4 but just want some input from people who have more knowledge.
thank you for reading.

update. Low oil pressure think oil pump is weak. has good pressure at start up then after a few mins the pressure drops to first quarter mark and below. but the truck still sputters no matter what. so i think an o2 sensor is bad but at least there is no knock at all when the pressure is good.

That's normal pressure on the stock gauge. Hook up a manual gauge to verify oil pressure. Your oil pump will not cause the engine to lose pressure after a few minutes. Either it's a faulty gauge (normal for the 3VZE) or worn main bearings. My engine is in good shape with plenty of oil pressure however the factory gauge shows just under a 1/4 of the way at hot idle.

Actually, as the engine warms, the oil will thin slightly and bearing clearances will grow slightly.
You might try a step or two heavier weight oil and see if that alleviates the noise. If so, start preparing for a rebuild... in my opinion.

Have you pulled codes on the engine yet? Do that first.
What type of knock are we talking about? The fuel pressure regulator can make a helluva ticking noise....

i run 10w 30 in it at the moment...i have only had the truck for a few weeks now and i have done nothing to it. the truck has 177k. and its strange because it only makes the noise a partical throttle then goes away when i step on it a little more. i am going to put the truck on the scanner tomarrow because it sputters at idle and when im trying to cruise.
thank you guys for helping me out..i love the truck and just want to try and make the ol girl happy again

I'm still going to suggest going to a heavier weight oil, maybe 15w40 or even 20w50.
It's sounding more and more like rod "little end" bushings/bearings from what I'm reading, if it is a knock and not a tick.
Out of curiousity, would you describe it as a real quick 'double' knock or a single knock?

i had similar oil preasure problems when hot or at least thats what the gauge tells me, i switched to 20w 50 and it seams to have helped that problem considerably. as for the power mine seams to top out at about 4000 as well
