3vze lasts a long long time.

1989 3vze. 260,000 miles. Original head gaskets. Don't believe the hype.

Yeah but you got the good gaskets on the 89 model, before the asbestos was banned.

My last one went 296,000 on an 89 5 speed 4runner. It ran great when it was stolen.

I hope my 94 goes that long.

It's is every bit as reliable as the 22RE, etc... which especially in lifted 4x4's require rebuilds and blow head gaskets.

I think the 5 speed makes a big difference in the long haul over the automatic.

I would not say it is not the most reliable by far but I personally don't thinking any of Toyota's engines are prior to the debut of the 3.4.

Everyone here seems to have good things to say about the 3.0, and I'm glad. I been a yotatech member for quite some time now, and really never here anyone say anything ggod about the 3.0. I just don't understand. Why can't the people that think the 3.0 is so bad give some credit for the people that have no problems instead of saying they are junk. We are happey with them, so leave it at that.

I will say this, I no of 2 people that have the 22re and they hate them. They tell me I don't no how luckey I am to have the 3.0.

I belive that any motor treats you like you treat it. If you drive any motor hard, and dont take care of it, it will get you back.

My experience with 3.0's is nothing to go by. Our first one wasn't rebuilt well, so it threw a rod. The second wasn't rebuilt well (the first time) either, so it burned a valve and scored the cams and journals. But, I do believe if the 3.0 is built well in the first place, and maintained well, it will last a long time.

My favorite 22re story...
Met a woman at the local farmer's feed store with an '84 p'up. Gabbed with her about 1/2 hr about Toyotas. She told me she had 600k/mi + original miles...never rebuilt...no major repairs...regular maintenance. Her odometer? Yep! Over 600k!!! Sounded real good, too!

I have no complaints about mine either.

265,000 when the HG popped. Prior to that it would run quite well (kicked a few scion's and Xterra's arses) It also got a MINIMUM of 18mpg on highway, usually closer to 20 If I kept it under 80 mph...

When the HG popped, I decided it was time for some mods to make her really run! Cams, oversized valves, 3angle valve job, PNP should have it running quite well - should be over 190hp

i was brought up on big chevy v8's and i think because of that i just dont like the thought of of a 4-banger powering a 4000lb vehicle..ya the 3.0 isnt the most powerful v6 of all time but when it comes to bottom end torque a 4 cylinder just wont do for me.

OK... from what I understand the HG issue on the 3.0 is pretty much limited to a certain range of seriel numbers, and it's easy to find if yours qualifies. That said, you HAVE to get an oil change every 2000 miles no questions asked. I also go so far as to use lucas treatment on every oil change since i got my rebuilt.
I'm with the poster who said they can't justify a four banger on a 2+ ton vehicle. If I had a pick up the 4 banger would be OK, but not on a Runner.
The 3.0 def has more bottom end torque.

Bumpin' it's all good you handed a few Xtera's there 'arses' but are you really branging about Scions? I don't know-- I wouldn't tell anyone about that...

hahahah well the situation was kinda funny, I tend to keep an eye on all the cars around me, and as such I noticed this arse monkey was cutting poeple off left and right, cuz lord knows he HAD to be at the next red light first! lol

I was cruizing at about 40mph or so in a 45, when he starts tailgateing me, or should I say trying to hit my hitch ball with his bumper! That's how close he was. To indulge him I moved up to 45 in the 45, but his tailgating continued. He got annoyed and tried to go around me and downshifted. Me being me, stabbed the throttle like a lead footed mental patient. I watched with glee as my yota started walking away from his ugly arse Xb.

The best part was that I cought up to a great looking Xterra! It had 33's, a roof rack, their version of an ARB, stump jack, snorkel, roof basket, and sliders. I cruised next to the Xterra for a good while, the whole time the Xb was tailgating the both of us! LOL I eventually gave the Xterra owner a big Thumbs up and made my turn. But it was fun annoying the hell out of the Xb!
