22re timing chain mystery noise?
Ok my truck has 236k with all original parts including timing chain.... i have alot of noise coming from my engine and i'm not sure what some is and i AM SURE what some is.... there is alot of valve chatter that i know is there but theres other noises... and sometimes you can here the skretching noise really good... 90% it does not do the skretching noise i got lucky and caught it on my vid.... all noises are in my youtube video.... please lemme know somethin i need to know where to start.... valves? Chain? Chain guides? Tensioner?

Timing chain guides are shot. But to make sure, take off the valve cover a look down there with a flashlight and double check.
Mine made it 215,000 on the origional timing chain before it went. You are do for a new one.

Shouldnt be to bad, im doing mine on saturday, i have 245xxx on the original, im also doing water and oil pumps as well since im already in it. You can get a good timing set from eniginbldr.com for $68 shipped, it has the sprockets chain tensioner couple of gaskets and metal guides.
) I like your daddy's truck. haha.

lol yea... i may do it soon cause this truck has really rough miles on it its not like everyday city highway miles.... this grey truck was my dads when he bought it new in 86 until a few years ago then i got it..... sooo.. hes taken this truck for about 20 years hunting...4wheelin... hauling a trailer with deer stands and corn.... been in more mud holes and came out then alot of other trucks could do... its got rough miles... but yea...

That could be the chain. Hard to tell over the loud valves.....haha. I'd put a stethoscope on it. Or, pull the valve cover and look. Stetho's easier, though.

Hard for me to tell from the video. However, shouldn't be too hard to diagnose. If you have knocking that sounds like it's coming from the bottom end, then the rod bearings are probably the culprit. If there's some loud ticking from the topend, then figure valves. If you here a grinding from the front, then figure the chain is slapping. If you don't replace it soon, then you'll have more of a mess to deal with. I did my timing chain 1.5 years ago after 150,000 original miles. One day it started slapping real bad. Scared the dickens outta me. But it wouldn't slap all the time (intermintent). Figure 1-2 days work and take your time. It's not too bad. I got my parts for EB (engbldr).

Yea i know i could do it in a day... but things come up sometimes aleast with my luck they do... body is clean shes just got alot of faded paint and blemishes....

i really don't wanna tackle the chain if thats not the noise i plan to adjs my valves soon to see if theres any change..... plus i realized that my dad had the timing advanced like freakin 3 inches past the timing tab... but she runs great with this.... weird...

my 84 has a lot of noise, but only at certain RPM's. from 2K up to approx 2,500 RPM rattles like a son-of-a.... I stuck a steth up towards the rear/top of the motor, sounds like valves to me, does that sound right or would the valves chatter all the time?? oh BTW it's a 22r with 196,000 (easy miles) and all original OEM

grove....when was the last time the valves were adjusted? You are, of course, going to hear the valves anytime when you have the stetho in that area.
Kiroshu......if you don't feel like doing the TC right now, atleast determine for certain whether or not you have slapping on the cover. Coolant breach in the crankcase is certainly bad news for bearings, but so's a busted or jumped chain and valve/piston collision. So, if it is slapping, consider parking it......unless, you feel like rebuilding nearly the entire motor at some point......soon.
