22re been sitting long time
As everyone has known who has read my sig line, I am in dire need of a truck.
I managed to get in contact with a guy who wants to sell his his 89 extended cab.
Pluses- 22re, sr5, UNDER 70K ORIGINAL MILES, only rust near right rear quarter panel, 5 speed, and of course 4x4.
Negative- HAS BEEN SITTING FOR 5 TO 6 YEARS!!!!!
What do you guys think on this matter, what is it worth?
Thanks for any feedback.
-Dave

Holy cow...under 70K miles? It still has at least 130K before major problems will arrive!
....but it has been sitting for 5-6 years...
Gaskets and seals could be dried up unless properly stored. Rust could have formed in the gas tank. Rust other places could have formed internally.
If it hadn't been sitting for 5-6 years ( and I had the money,) I would pay $5000 for it.
I bought my '93 single cab with 87K miles on it for $3000, and the t-chain guides had already been replaced with metal backed ones

If it where me I would probably buy it. But then I'm looking for anther project truck and don't so much need a daily driver. I know vehicles have sat for that long and been able to get running again. My in-laws had an 88 chevy that had sat for 3 years at the minimum (the time I have known my wife, but I am sure that truck had been setting a lot longer) A new battery, and some ether it started right up. The engine was fine but the auto tranny soon went out but a 5speed should fare better. Just change all fluids before you start it and it should be good.

It should be alright, just drain the gas tank (theres a drain plug on the bottom of the tank) and change the fuel filter. I would also recomend changing the oil and filter as well before you try and start it.

Mine sat for a year in my driveway because of a fire, and it cranked up first try after I put a new battery in it, although it killed all the mosquitos in my neighborhood because of the smoke, but it is running great now. I ran that gas for a while too!! It had a full tank when the fire happenend!

Hey, i just bought my first truck from my uncle (the first truck he ever bought too). he bought it new in 89, put a total of 229xxx on it (mostly highway), been coast to coast, hell and back. when i bought this from him, it'd been sitting in his yard for 5 years. all i had to do was put in a new battery, change the oil (filters too) and had a minor issue with the fuel pump. after the battery was put in, the thing started right up.

My current DD only has 62K miles on it I bought it with 50K. Its a DX xtra cab 4x4 22re and although I can't be sure I think it sat for a long time as well. I have had some issues. Right after I bought it I had to replace the timing chain! Don't ask me why it went so early I have no idea but the guides were missing and sitting at the bottom. Then I replaced both rear brake lines because they were rotted and I also had to replace the fuel sending unit, which is expensive for a little part. But aside from those things it has never left me sitting and still runs great. If you buy it just expect that you will probly have a few things that will need attention but I think you should be alright.

DONT START IT !! IT'll blow up the second you do !! On the real though, I would plan on replacing all fluids, flush cooling brakes PS, Possibly do a fuel pump and a fuel filter, and change the oil before you even try and start it first...
