1st Gen 4Runner: Removing Blower Motor without removing HVAC box?
#25
...and 4crawler, thanks for chiming in. The fan blows super strong when hooked up directly to the battery - was blowing dust out all of the vents. I found that the rig only had a battery ground going to the engine block and nothing to the chassis or body.
I spent the majority of the day driving around getting parts and making custom cables, it got dark and rainy before I got the battery all wired up to see if the fan issue can be solved by better grounding.
I'm picking up tomorrow where I left off. Just don't know where the battery cable connects to the alternator. Being tucked under the ps pump, it's hard to see.

there should be a large stud on the back of the alternator where the wire will attach. should be a #6 wire there already. I got some nice car audio terminals that had multiple wire connections so i ran a wire to the block and one to the body/chassis using #2 cable. I also did the alt. swap to a chevy 94A alt. so far its working great. lights dont dim when at idle anymore. plus i put in a new battery so that helps too.

I ran the battery cable around the front behind the radiator and fused it with a car audio 100A fuse. i did a thread on it in the tech section titled alternator swap.

I'm happy to report that my Big 3 mod is complete and it completely fixed my slower blower motor issue (along with dim headlights, slow wipers, etc). The battery was only grounded to the block and nothing else. I had hoped that there was another ground to the body or chassis somewhere but there was not.
I'm relieved that I did not have a fire from wires overheating in trying to ground.
Thanks everyone for your help! Your support through this project is greatly appreciated!
