1st Gen 4runner Front bumper strength for flat towing
How would it hold up to a tow bar? I'm coming back from the world of 2.5t military vehicles where even glove box bolts are fine thread... So my sense of strength has gone out the window. Is that um "petite" thickness able to hold up to being flat towed? (tow vehicle is a 1 ton before anyone goes blah about flat towing)

toyota 1st/2nd gen pickup/4 runner front bumpers and the brackets are about as stout as a wet paper bag.
better off mounting the towbar tabs to the front crossmember

No!-the brackets are crap. remove the bumper and attach directly to the front crossmember as he said.
you could probably get buy with removing the lower valance and modifying the mounts so you can retain your bumper.
Remember too that when flat towing a Toyota you need to remove the rear driveshaft. The TC doesn't get properly lubed. You will trash your TC bearings if you don't...
