1992 toyota pickup Idle problem!
My idle screw is turned up high and the idle starts high, but as the engine gets warmer, it eventually dies. Also, I had to put thread lock on the idle screw to get it to stay in place, otherwise it would screw all the way in. Oh yea, I can turn the idle screw with my fingers, prior to the thread lock. I have heard many suggestions but I wanted to hear some solutions from people who actually know these trucks. Thanks

Good luck getting a real solution to even 1% of your issues (which you WILL have many of). I see all kinds of threads on this site with the same exact problems that apparently plague these rigs, but rarely ever a solution to the problems.
Hopefully you have better luck than I've had trying to diagnose things.

Ahhh don't be so pesimistic. These engines are not that compicated.
I bet your IACV is all plugged up, since the idle is dependent upon if the engine is warm or cold. IACV=Idle Air Control Valve. Just read on how to get to it for your model, earlier models are detached from the throttle body and later models are built into the throttle body itself. Don't take the screw out, just make sure the air and coolant inputs are not clogged. If you take the screw and spring out, it is hard to get right again. At that point better off getting a new one from the dealer.

Found this on toyota nation. Don't know if it will help but...
Idle surging: This is also discussed in the FAQ, but I put it in here because it's one of the most common, if not the most common oddity people run into when they buy one of these trucks, because either the previous owner or the new owner has messed with the idle speed. The idle speed bouncing/surging up and down is fixed 90% of the time by setting the idle speed down. If the idle is too high, the computer will engage/disengage a fuel cut when you push the brakes, causing the idle to bounce. With the engine fully warm it should idle at 850 rpm +/-50. Too much lower you will be bogging, too much higher your idle will start to bounce. If by chance this doesn’t fix the idle surging, check for vacuum leaks.

Idle's problems
1991 Toyota pick-up. My truck continues to idle too high. Can't adjust idle lower. After warm if you turn truck off and restart it, it will idle normal but will just go right back up and stay too high until you turn off and restart. This is does not always work sometimes I just can't get the idle to go low enough. Have replaced throttle body already and it is a new rebuilt engine. Any advice?
