1987 22r pickup motor and trans problems

Okay here it goes. Compression test goes 100 165 100 175 no change when oil added to cylinder. Leak test, the two low comp cylinders have bad leak build no pressure. Set values to spec and gained 10psi on comp test and leak test showed a little better. It's not blowing out the oil fill cap but I think I do hear it coming out of the tail pipe and no air coming out of carb. Does use a lot of oil. Has a stumble at idle and idle speed changes all the time, tried setting to factory spec and I see no difference plus it still smells rich. That's issue number one.

Issue two. Trans worked great till a couple days ago. Howling in 3rd and 5th, now it pops out of first all the time. Clutch pedal is grabbing almost all the way to the floor. T case is always empty and the bearing for the flange to the drive shaft is super loose (oil leaking out of there).

Sorry if my typing sucks I'm doing this on my phone.

Well first off you generally want the compression numbers between the cylinders to be between 10% of eack other. That means with one pushing 175 you would want the rest to be no lower than about 158. You could check the cam and make sure you havent lost lobes on the two cylinders with the lower compression. You also might have cracked a piston around the oil rings. Ive managed to do both of these things before. Other than that with the compression all over the place like that it could just be time for a rebuild. How many miles are on the engine since any kind of overhaul?

Your second issue with the transmission now howling and a leaking rear output on the transfer case, have you ever checked the oil level on the trans? It is conceivable for the seal between the transmission and transfer case to fail and lose enough of the fluid from the trans out the back of the leaking transfer case to eventually smoke the bearings in the trans.

I decided im going to put my engine trans and t case in from my parts truck. Is it possible to instal that as one unit? I pulled it as one but i also cut the front end off the truck.

Honestly never tried it, I've installed my fair share of those motors and transmissions and think its probably easier to separate the two and mate them up inside the vehicle. I would drop in the motor first and then plug the the drivetrain in from underneath.

I did the whole unit in my 85 pulled the hood and wiggled it in. Probably easier to separate them. I barely had room with a solid axel and 3" lift. .
