timing chain marks on toyota 1985 truck

I have what I believe is a question that has not been answerd by atleast a dozen individuals, whether or not they were qualified is another question. I do not want a bull answer to this question. What is the importance of the bright timing chain marks?

Before you answer I know that they are to align witht he camshaft and crankshaft marks, that is not really a correct answer to this question, this respeonse just tells the person where or how to place the chain.

What I want to know is this, we can agree that there is know difference between a bright link and a black metallic colored link right, rather than the obvious, right; so with that in mind, can a person just choose two links of comparable distance and mark them and use these two links to attach to the crank and camshaft marks. Not that one would do something like that, especially since the bright links are present, why would you. But my point is that no one I talk to agrees with what I say, but they can not give me an answer either. Just curious, can someone help
