85 SR5 22R Restore Questions

Hello all Yotatech’s :-p
I’ve been looking through the forums for about 6 or more months now. Just researching different ways of fixing up my 85 Toyota SR5 22R 4x4. basically the history of the truck is. Was bought New by my father and used all the way up to the time when it was handed down to me and I have used it since. we had the Original engine up until about 5 yrs back. Then being replaced by bad mechanics more recently one that used chevy gaskets and leaving a bolt in 1 of my cylinders. So after that engine was rebuilt found out bottom end was swapped and was warped and no good . so found a new place to have the engine rebuilt, and the work done is A++ grade friendly old toyota guru with Professional service . so after finally getting my engine settled in. Now is time to clean up other parts of the truck like body and little maintenance. The front and rear has been rebuilt. nothing extreme was done still a stock yota as far as I know. Im not to mechanical with trucks as much im learning as I go. Witch by reading these forums. There is no other better way to learn your truck. I try to do as much as I can myself before having to take to a shop. Due to not the right tools or the lack of know age. If I had the chance to learn how I would of taken it. Now that most things are done in that aspect. I want to basically finish up the truck with some body work, paint, headers, catalytic converter, rims, coldair intake, and new seals around windows and doors. headers and cat are easy parts its finding parts for replacing 2 panels on my bed of the truck I cant find. In the picture below I show you the damaged panels. The truck isn’t super great shape but I believe I can bring it back to life still, and with the wisdom of yotatech family I truly think this is very possible. any ideas would be great. This truck is a daily driver not going extreme offroad, no rock climbing haha just want to take what I have and make it look good. Maybe down the road when I have another way of transportation make it a nice rock climber hehe “evil grin”

Well basically the only part im hung up on. Is the body work. I took it in for a estimate at Macco for repair and repaint, and 3500 later I was like no K Y? anywise I thought if anything I can restore rust areas and replace or bondo damaged panels by trail and error. At least give it a shot all else fails pay the 3500 and shoot myself later. Dose anyone have any ideas on the damaged panels drivers side bed. Replacement or anything.

Thank you ahead of time for any feedback you guys might have on any of th eitems im wanting to upgrade etc.

if the only body damage is on the bed then just buy a new bed that is in good shape and repaint it, also there is a guy on here that sells fiberglass beds in case your in an area that is hard to find rust free beds, i think his name is slacker.

yep .. sell the bed to someone else .. (recoupe some coinage ) and buy one of ours .. http://www.toyotafiberglass.com

dont matter what you do , as far as fixing it ... (I see you have some rust issues in the seam ) you will NOT stop the rust . DONT trust any bodyshop that says they can .. unless you get a multi year warrenty ..

looks like a great candidate for saving .
