1st Gen 4Runners...Interchangeable Parts?
Are parts of the 1st generation 4Runners interchangeable?
I mean I know that there's a difference between automatic, manual, IFS, and straight axle models, but besides the parts that directly relate to those particular systems, are the parts for the body, interior, brakes, electrical, and otherwise pretty mixable for the years of the first generation 4Runner?

Most of the parts are interchangable but not all. The dash pads were changed slightly, for example, at some point (87??) but for the most parts everything will interchange (except the obvious things that you have already mentioned). Even with the dash pads, you can install an 88 dash pad on an 84 (as an example) but you need the instrument cluster pad as well.

That's the beauty of these things! I've had up to 3 1st gen runners at a time, and when I went to sell one I would always make sure to take the "good" parts off of it and replace them with the worn parts fron the runner I was going to keep. My roommate calls them lego trucks for that very reason.
