Today I noticed something odd about my wipers. On Mist and Low they work good, but on Hi, they are very slow. It seems to me that when they are going up (toward the driver side) the motor really strains. I lubed the wiper shafts good, but where else can I lube? How can I test the voltage? The connector looks good.

I had a motor go out on me, Good thing I had a spare that actually worked! Does your truck have a voltage gauge, mine does right next to oil pressure but its an SR5 4x4 with the gauge pod infront of the shifter. If you do have one just turn the key so that the cab is on but dont start it.. turn the wipers on and watch the gauge and see how much the voltage drops when they are on the up stroke.

Stupid question, but was the windshield wet when you noticed it? Just since friction does slow it down it seems when there is not enough moisture for the speed.

yea the winshield was wet. I tried also flipping the arms up and running them there, got the same result.

I do not have a volt gauge.

I'm thinking its just lubrication. Where do you lubricate the motor?

just use a voltameter (you can buy a multimeter for like 10 bucks at any auto place) and stick the test leads into your cigarette lighter (one on back, one against side, it doesnt matter which, if you reverse the posative and ground it will just read as negative, but will be the same reading) Typical charging voltage is between 13.7-14.1, could be more if your battery is very low and its cold. Hook up the voltameter and then look at the voltage drop when you run it on that setting, and compare it to the VD from the other settings where you say they work normally.

Well I tested the voltage at the motor connector and found it to be 12.10 volts when on high. I have lubricated most every joint, so I guess it points to the wiper motor. Local junkyard has one for $20, good price?

$20 bones is better than a slacking motor. Only thing is will that motor be an improvement as it will have some age to it as well. What kind of wiper blades do you have on.

yea I figure it can't hurt, and if this one should let go completely, i'll have a spare. I just have regular blades from napa.
