New 1980 pickup owner
I recently acquired a 1980 Toyota pickup for my new temporary DD. I come from a background of AirCooled Volkswagens and 70's Ford trucks. My 1979 F-150 Short Course race truck gets all my money, time and attention, so anything the 'yota gets will be really budget.
Plans are drive it like it is till it gets warm out, than I might pull the doors off, along with the cap, and maybe mount some bucket seats in the bed, possibly build some tube doors and bumpers, and mount up a set of bald 34" TSL skinnies. Its been awhile since Ive had a DD/mild wheeler so Im kind of excited.
The toyota is all stock (i think) with an all rebuilt 22r with possibly a 22re head? and a header. Possibly has some cam to it, I need to go talk to the dude who rebuilt it and see what exactly he did to it.
Heres the one pic I have of it so far, and of course ill plug a pic of the race truck just because. Thanks for listening.
My last wheelin rig, 89 F-150 "mild travel"
And some fab work pic of the rear of the 1979 F-150 Race Truck

Looks great! I just purchased a similar 80 longbed in the same color. I'm thinking 235/85/16 mudders to put on the one I ended up with. Post pics of yours when you get the 34s. could be a good start to a rusted long bed pic thread. Can't find a topper like the one you ave for a long bed. good luck with it

I did some work on the old girl tonight, doing the axle seals, and I have a few questions...
First off, really simple question and Ill probably find an answer to it, but ill ask anyway...
Whats the torque specs on the 4 nuts with the cone washers on the high steer arm?
Than, how do I know I have enough grease in the knuckle when I fill it using the plugged hole?
And, do I have to pull the tie rod off when I go to do the seal on the drivers side?
Thats all for now, I discovered an oil leak also. Really hoping its not the rear main.

you need to do the birfield and bearings by taking the entire spindle/knuckle apart..
that plugged hole is an inspection hole...
this thread will help

Solid thread, but yes I know the whole spindle/rotor combo comes off. The axle seal is already done, I just cleaned most of the grease/gear oil combo sludge out of the knuckle and dont really know how I know when its has enough grease. I read in a different article that the plug whole is there to inspect and pump grease into the closed knuckle, and thats where I get confused on how I know if I have enough grease for everything in there.
