Question, is a 2wd frame similar enough to a 4wd frame to be converted? I found a cherry SWB 2wd second gen frame out in the bush, rest of the truck is gone and its been burnt too but frame looks strait and still has undercoat on it. As you may know my frame is haggard, My plan is to rip the 2WD IFS off it, put some shackle tubes in, custom front hanger, custom high clearance T-case cross member, IFS box mount and get it all nice and cleaned up and swap all of my parts over one day. Just wondering if it would work since its a 2wd frame?, Not everyday you find one in such good shape.

I think it will work, as far as i remember, they looked VERY similar. Have to tear out ifs crap, and basically do a SAS. But yeh it would work.

I did a coil spring four link on the front and thre link in the rear of this 82 two wheel drive.[IMG][/IMG] It worked good, yeah real good, then i rolled it and through out back.[IMG][/IMG] now that was a fun run at the local tuff trucks, i built this thing out of a 1982 two wheel drive long bed cut the frame off from the tranny cross member back and made a new one, coil spring two link with panhard bar in the back and coil 4 link up front moved the front axle 6 inches forward. It was fun while it lasted.

It's very possible. I dont know the specific differences between the two just heard of folks doing the conversions.

I have a 87 4x4 singlecab shortbed and I found an almost mint identical frame to my truck (the donor was even a carb truck too). I picked it up for $100 and made that money back by selling stuff that was still attached to the frame.

incase your interested heres the thread that has all the pictures of my chassis swap.

So me and a buddy went and got it today, took a few hours but its worth it, Unbolted the burnt/rusted to cab and ripped it off with his yota, then towed the frame and rear axle through the gravel pit to my big flat deck GM. It has some rear springs(junk) rear axle housing(good) shackles(good) gas tank(junk, but the sender is good!), and all of the IFS stuff is fully functioning even has shocks. Most of the mounts are different but close enough to be converted over to 4wd some day. Funny thing is the frame has a few bullet holes in it so those need fixin', I got all of the body mounts and bolts too which are in good shape.

Oh and we found his shovel that some redneck stole while we were parked in the mud pit the other day so thats good!.

Courtney is nice! I grew up and live in Shawnigan lake/Millbay, but I plan on moving up to Nanaimo in June.
