Can you identify this distributor?
Hey Guys,
I recently bought a used and abused '79 long bed (2wd). I had a 76 a little over 10 years ago, and then an MR2, so it's nice to be back in the toyota crowd!
The truck has some serious miles on it. I don't know how much, but just about everything is worn out. Previous owner said he replaced the engine, so it's got a 20R in it, (didn't 79 come with a 22r stock?) Anyways, I bought a dist cap from Autozone and it didn't fit, so I'm trying to figure out what year this distributor is so I can order a new cap.
On a side note, I think the pickup coil is broke in the dist as well. Any one know what the best option is to fix it? I wasn't getting spark, so I replaced the coil and ignitor with a GM coil and ignition module (I found the instructions on pirate4x4). I have tested the setup by putting 1.5v through the pickup coil connector and I get spark. I get no voltage when I hook up an DMM set to AC to the pickup.
Also, the distributor shaft has some play, as well as the vacuum advance... I think the distributor is just plain wore out. Is there a rebuild kit?
Anyone in Phoenix want to lend me a distributor so I can see if that's the problem?
Thanks!
Joey
