Alternator and KC lighting

I would like to know some info on the stock 1979 Toyota alternator. Where would I get a new one and are there any upgraded models?

I just built and installed a custom flatbed similar to All-Pro version. looks/works great but I'd love to mount two 100 watt KC off-road lights on top and an extra small light to illuminate the back of the bed.

Will the stock alternator be able to power all of this w/o slowly draining my battery? after 30 years of service I've been told my alternator is starting to "go out" where can I get a new or refurbished quality alternator? Need a horn too, a big fatty loud horn.

Thanks

I believe stock alts on a pickup are about 35 amps. This is what my 80 has so I assume yours would be the same. I think they put a little bigger alts on the later model 4 runners but I dont know if they will bolt up with out modifications. Another option, and one I plan to do in the future, is to by brackets to mount a gm alt to the block. You can find them relatively cheap with over 100 amp ratings.

Little Electrical Info Here
Watts (as lights are measured in) = Volts x Amps

So, you want to run two 100w KC's on the front and lets say a 35W light in the back, so we have 235W total running. Divide that 235W by 12v and you figure you have right around 20A being drawn at any time. Factor in your stock headlight draw of around 10A, wipers, radio, etc. and your probably up to at least the Stock Alternators 35A (Think my 82 actually has a 45A, but yours may vary). So Basically I would not run that setup without upgrading the alternator, although you may be able to just get away with it.

I went to go look at an 82 4x4 that was for sale a few weeks ago and the guy told me that it had a GM alternator. He said it was much better than the stock one. Woulda bought the truck for another resto project but the price wasn't right. Sounds like a good upgrade!

im gonna look into those high output alternators green.

Probably gonna run with 2 55 wat lights or invest in HID lighting which I can also use for rally racing.
