Paragon March 31st 2007
What 6 Stock Toyota's Can Do!
Craw (Dave) And I put a trip To Paragon Together.
We had posted posts on Here, T4R, and PATTORRA.
We Had 6 Rigs Total
3 - 3rd Gens (Me, Matt, And Tom)
1 - 2nd Gen (Dave)
1 - T100 (Marc)
1 - Pick-up (Joe)
It was a great trip with a lot of mud...
(I promised myself I would stay away from mud on this trip, but these guys wanted it, So I showed them Mud)
To thank for the pictures, Dave Girlfriend Laurie Is to Thank.
She owned with that camera.
Hopefully next time she will bring her completely awesome X-Terra.
Thank You Again Laurie for All the Pictures!
Great to meet you and have you on the trip with us!
So Lets Begin with the pics!!!
This First Two Are Of The Trip From Allentown to the Paragon that Dave, Mark, and I Took.
Some one Explain to me why a Jersey Train Is in PA?
This Hill Climb I thought was going to kill Dave's 3.Slow, He was Behind Marc.
So we get to the Park, and find ourselves in the presence of a Cruiser forum.
And here are some of the other Modified Rigs In the Lot.
And Now For The Stockness....
From Left To Right, Tom's Rig, Dave's Rig, And A Bit Of Tess
Joe's 91 Pick-Up
Tess (While I am Airing Her down... and a Little bit of Matt in that Pic)
Mark Airing down Red (his T100)
From Left To Right:
Matt, Joe, Tom, Dave, Avy, Mark
So now that we all have our little orange Flags We head to the Play Pen.
Look at that Flex On the Way
The Pen
The First Thing We Came Across When Entering was the FJ That Almost Got Stuck,
But He got himself Out.
Random Pic Of Marc and Tom (Marc where you putting your boots on here?)
Driving Around
What Happens when you abandon your Rig In the Park
Now Lets Play a Little
Two Minutes In and He Had To Get Stuck...
Way To Go Joe lol!
Marc's Not Yet As Dirty T100
So Just For Fun I wanted to Attempt A Hill Climb That I saw a 1st Gen IFS do on the PATTORA Forum Do...
However I was Not As Successful....
I was Soooo Close Though....
This is also where i dented the skid on the gas tank and muffler...
Some Poser Shots of Tess
A Poser Shot of Tom's 00 Runner.
Smart Kid, Had the Smart Runner, and didn't take it into the mud like the rest of us...
(Smart Runner To Me is the one with the Multi-mode shifter and Rear Diff Lock)
Dave's Rig
So now that we all are familiar with our rigs and what they can and cannot do, We head to our first Trail
First on our way we saw some Jeeps Wheelin
This is a pick from a ledge that we all had to pass...
After Passing that Particular ledge we all needed a Pee Break
This one will be going in the gents section later.
Meet Dave:
And His 2nd Gen Again
Me Lost...(notice the hat...)
But Here is Dave Looking like a Heroic lol!
Joe wanted to show some flex for the two ladies in our crew...
And a poser shot
We ended up back at the entrance to go grab some lunch.
We ended up talking to a guy about the park, and good places to eat around.
Laurie Loved this truck, she thought it should have been out there on the trails lol!
So after Lunch we head back in.
We picked up a Bronco and ATV with us.
I was trying to get us to Muddy Pipeline, and the road there was a little Rough...
Marc got a flat....
Spare on
Pissed off ATV Guys, Hey, The road is barely wide enough for two way, be freakin patient.
So after the flat was fixed we did deliberated a little.
So I spotted after that for everyone to mack sure we didn't get another flat.
Now that we are all past that spot we deliberate
And Keep going, where we ran into the Cruiser Forum
Then We had some fun
(since we had to turn around since the Trail got a little to nasty for us Stock guys)
You could have almost pushed Tess over
So After that trail, Dave and the Others Wanted To Get A little More Dirty.
So I took them Back to the Play Pen.
There Are 97 Pics...
So No Commentary after this...
Well Maybe Not...
That Bronco Loved Mud...
And To Get Stuck In that....
Mark Pulled Out the Bronco.
Gotta love that 3.4L!
Poser Shot of a 2nd and 3rd Gen
Marc loves Mud Too...
And Getting Stuck...
Dave and His 3.Slow Pulled Out Mark.
Can I tell you I was very Impressed with that 3.Slow...
Some Mud Shots of Dave
Joe Lovin Some Mud
Matt lovin Some Mud,
And Getting Stuck...
Matt's Engine Bay
Avy Shots.
Hey Guys Whats Me
Here I Go
Nice A$$, Thank Laurie....
So Marc and Joe wanted to show off and make Me feel Bad, So They Did the same hill Climb I tried...
And Succeeded...
Time To Go, Good Bye Play Pen
So The Time came For us To Leave...
The Cruiser Crew

Man's Best Off-Roading Friend
Most of these Are just Poser Shots...
Tess and I
Dave And his 2nd Gen
Joe & Friends with his 91 Pick-Up
Marc And His T100
Matt and His 02' Limited 3rd Gen
Tom Had To leave, So we didn't get a pick of him with his rig.
Dave was very proud of his little mud on his sunroof.
Which one of us was the dirtiest?
Poser Shot Of Everyone In the End
This one is of Tess with No Driver and Hood Up
(I was airing up and checking everything under the hood...)
So in the end this trip was def Fun...
Now I am in the Process of Ripping out my interior to clean and I am sure these guys are pressure washing there Rigs as Well...
I ended Up going home after this.
And Did it in good time too..
Set Cruise Control to 95 and damn can I say that it went well..
People thought I was insane with such a Muddy A$$ Rig on the Road.
Again Thank You Laurie For All The Pics.
Hopefully Next Time We Can See You Out There With Your X-Terra.

Looks like you guys had a ton of fun!
I have to say though, I'm not sure which pic makes me wince more:
Standing on the hood/fender
Jumping off the hood/fender or
Trying to pull out a stuck rig with that "rope"
Erich

oh and that rope is strong, its unbeatable, my one friend kody that came with us gets them from his dad who works for njcpl, or new jersey central power and light...i dont remember the weight rating on it, but its designed for a lot rougher stuff then just pulling out stuck trucks...

Wow! great post. Thanks to avy for inviting me and posting the pics, and big thanks to Dave (craw4x4)'s girlfriend Laurie for taking them. You guys rock!
Next time I will have me some proper tires, and possibly 2.5 to 3" of lift, or so I hope. IT's too bad tom had to skip out early, I hope he sees the pics. Boy was his girlfriend (who rode with him) PISSED OFF! LOL
Can't wait to add these full res shots (big thanks to dave for mailing me a CD no less!) to my underdecorated walls at home.

a lift isn't going to help you get up a hill, dude. You need a locker.
A front locker will help a lot more in getting up a hill. Trust me
That will help you get up the hill without tearing the hill up and making it harder for future people to climb. (it's all about smart wheeling and conservation )
(lockright inside front=awesome)

My belly Rubbed.
I dented my gas tank skid,
and my muffler.
In this case Yes a lift would have helped me.
But consider this.
Both the T100 and 91 Pick-Up were not locked.
Granted they weren't Lifted either,
But I still think they have more clearance than a 3rd Gen with Rear Sag...

I've been debating a lunchbox locker for the rear...
Especially since I should probably tear the rear apart and drain it w\ all that mud we did and no diff breather. stock out, AMSOIL in, etc. If i've got it open, why not stuff a lockrite in there...
Plus you're also running AT tires and you were only at 25PSI, not 20. I have no doubt that, dents and all, Tom's elock'd limited could have made it up that hill (probably with a few more dents than you got!)
end result: hill conqured, 4runner with dented skids, and one PISSED OFF GIRLFRIEND
edit: this is not meant as an insult to tess AT ALL she's a great 4runner.

But what about the other 2?
They weren't locked?
They were at the same PSI as me.
Tom would have probably had less dents.
Remember that my frame is literally sitting on my axle due to sag, and a bunch of ☺☺☺☺ being in the back...
Yeah his G/F was not enjoying the Ride some much...
No Insult takin, Remember I was right there, but that little hump at the top and the front tires got lifted off the ground.
If maybe i pulled my e-brake a little to try and lock up the rear, like I did on the trails the last time I was there, I could have made it.
But I am talking, takin that hill climb without damage.
Or a Locker.
Then comes the question like Which came first, the chicken or the egg.
Which should come first, lockers or a complete suspension and body lift, with 33s?

Heh, finally caught up to ya'll I been working 2 jobs for the last 2 weeks and its been BUSY. Got a job working for AAA doing everything but towin.
Thanks to Avy and Dave for organizing the trip, and thanks to Laurie who got some excellent shots.
That bronco that followed us needed a group so we let'em join in, one of the drivers (there were 2 guys and one of the guys gf in it) kept getting stuck, I pulled him out like 3x.. That thing had to weigh at least 6500lbs!! The 3.4L did it with ease.
As for my hill climb, oh man that was fun! I swear the whole time me and Kody were almost about to crap ourselves if I rolled back again. B/c the first time out I didnt give it enough go and it stalled and rolled back lol.. It was easy the rest of the way.
We had great times, even though Matt got hopelessly stuck and it took Avy some time to get him out while I was busy cleaning out my intake b/c I sucked in some water-no damage thank god!!!
Getting that flat really sucked, no one wants to fix it b/c its in the sidewall. Gonna have to do it myself or swap my spare on to the reg rim cause those tires cost 125 bucks and are very uncommon. Hanook??? Who the heck uses those (they were brand new when I bought the truck!)
Oh and Joe, dont worry a little bit of brake fluid was all ya needed man..thankfully your e-brake didnt
lock up! Been there and done it, so I knew man. I was going nuts over mine one day!
Matt, if your gonna do a lunchbox-nab a powertrax no slip locker (same one I will do soon) http://www.rocky-road.com/noslip.html about $400... and LSD will help and be easier to drive on the road with though as with a locker you will have to coast in turns and stuff.
Overall very fun trip, we are gonna have to go again soon. SO whats our clubs name Avy?

What A Great Time I Had
HEY ALL, I wanna say to everyone who was on this little day trip. It was great to meet and wheel with you all. I too am a noob when it comes to off roading , and I had a great time. For all the bad things i heard about having the 3. slow , I must say that I was impressed with it.
Laurie wants to say thanks for the props on the pics. it was her pleasure. My question now is , when can we do it again??? I'd like to try Rausch Creek next time , or maybe go somewhere else.Yes AVY I am trying to get that awsome XTRRA out in to the trails.

First off, nice pics, i wish i lived closer to that park! If you think your mud there is bad, try coming down here to GA where you have the nasty ,sticky, thick, red clay. This stuff gets everywhere! If your going to spend 400 for a LSD why not spend $511 for a full detroit locker? The road manners arent bad at all. I rarely hear it ratcheting, You learn how to adjust to it on the road, and best of all, it replaces the entire carrier so you dont have to worry about the little clutches inside the stock carrier slipping.
