2020 Tacoma TRD Off-Road

Tacoma TRD Off-Road is the owner’s first truck and simple upgrades have made it unique.

Some build threads here on YotaTech are too technical for the average owner, but the Cement Grey 2020 Toyota Tacoma TRD Off-Road shown here is the first truck owned by “NinjaXBart”. While he wants to make this truck unique, he has started off slowly, adding items that many owners could tackle on their own. So far, he has added an array of lighting upgrades along with new wheels and tires, but as you can see in the images here, those basic changes go a long way in creating a far more aggressive aesthetic.

2020 Tacoma TRD Off-Road Introduction

When the OP first introduced us to his 2020 Toyota Tacoma TRD Off-Road, he provided some basic details, along with a video and a collection of pictures of the truck in stock form. He also shared some details of his first trip through the Canadian wilderness.

2020 Tacoma TRD Off-Road

I figured I’d start a slow n steady build thread to document my progress. This is my 2020 Double cab short box off-road Tacoma, in my favorite color, Cement Grey. This is my first truck so the progress will be slow as I learn new things and make this truck my own, and to fit my needs (and adventures!) We have lots of nice areas and trails to explore here in Alberta where I live!

The day I picked up the Tacoma.. we shot a commercial for the dealership here! I’ve done one photo campaign for Toyota Canada shooting a 2020′ Tacoma prior to this!

Throughout the thread, the OP shares a ton of pictures of the truck out romping in the snow with other Taco owners. We have only included a handful of them here, so if you want a closer look at this Tacoma, you should click here to read through the whole thread.

Upgraded Lighting

The first modification that the OP shared was a new grille, complete with integrated amber LED lights.

Okay I figure these grill lights resemble the Raptor’ but eh, it’s my first truck, and I love that wide aggressive front end look these add!!

Slight dremel down the edge because I wanted to fit them in the middle row. Went with 4 to be just.. a little.. different, haha!

Next, he replaced the stock fog lights with a setup from Diode Dynamics.

Now I’m a pretty big lighting nerd, so next up was a nice foglight upgrade! I did some photo work and marketing for Diode Dynamics in the past, so ofcourse I went with the popular SS3 Foglights (Sports) Wide SAE Amber lenses!

New Fog Lights

A short time later, the headlights were the next thing to be upgraded.

Next, Diode Dynamics SL1 LED’s in the low-beams projectors for headlights! Pretty much a nice white crisp color change from the yellow halogen, same cut-off line in my opinion but the overall color temp. feels and appears more reflective ahead, on the road, lines, signs, fence posts, etc.! I am often out in the back-country on dark roads driving so these were a good upgrade.

New Headlights

In addition to providing much better lighting on the road or the trail, these lighting upgrades and the new grille create a very different look from stock. For comparison, the OP shared a picture of his truck next to the same basic truck in stock form.

New Wheels and Tires

The latest update doesn’t come with any pictures, but the OP included a video from his YouTube channel showing the new Stealth Custom BR6 wheels being installed with General Grabber A/T tires. The video, shown below, lets us watch as the shop mounts the new tires on the wheels followed by mounting the new setup on the truck. The video ends with a series of panning shots of the 2020 Tacoma TRD Off-Road with the new shoes and they look pretty fantastic on the Cement Grey pickup.

This video was followed by a second clip where the OP talks about the new tire setup.

We don’t know what the owner of this 2020 Tacoma has planned next, but so far, changing the wheels, tires, grille and lighting setup has made a big difference in the overall look of this truck. There are lots more pictures in the thread and you can check them out by clicking here.

"Before I was old enough to walk, my dad was taking me to various types of racing events, from local drag racing to the Daytona 500," says Patrick Rall, a lifetime automotive expert, diehard Dodge fan, and respected auto journalist for over 10 years. "He owned a repair shop and had a variety of performance cars when I was young, but by the time I was 16, he was ready to build me my first drag car – a 1983 Dodge Mirada that ran low 12s. I spent 10 years traveling around the country, racing with my dad by my side. While we live in different areas of the country, my dad still drag races at 80 years old in the car that he built when I was 16 while I race other vehicles, including my 2017 Dodge Challenger SRT Hellcat and my 1972 Dodge Demon 340.

"Although I went to college for accounting, my time in my dad’s shop growing up allowed me the knowledge to spend time working as a mechanic before getting my accounting degree, at which point I worked in the office of a dealership group. While I was working in the accounting world, I continued racing and taking pictures of cars at the track. Over time, I began showing off those pictures online and that led to my writing.

"Ten years ago, I left the accounting world to become a full-time automotive writer and I am living proof that if you love what you do, you will never “work” a day in your life," adds Rall, who has clocked in time as an auto mechanic, longtime drag racer and now automotive journalist who contributes to nearly a dozen popular auto websites dedicated to fellow enthusiasts.

"I love covering the automotive industry and everything involved with the job. I was fortunate to turn my love of the automotive world into a hobby that led to an exciting career, with my past of working as a mechanic and as an accountant in the automotive world provides me with a unique perspective of the industry.

"My experience drag racing for more than 20 years coupled with a newfound interest in road racing over the past decade allows me to push performance cars to their limit, while my role as a horse stable manager gives me vast experience towing and hauling with all of the newest trucks on the market today.

"Being based on Detroit," says Rall, "I never miss the North American International Auto Show, the Woodward Dream Cruise and Roadkill Nights, along with spending plenty of time raising hell on Detroit's Woodward Avenue with the best muscle car crowd in the world.
