Is the Toyota Tundra Really All It Could Be?

Toyota Tundra

In the most important and measureable ways, the Tundra was the best full-size truck on sale.

Fast forward to 2018 and things have changed for the worse. The truck market moves fast, and since the second-generation Tundra was introduced, Ford and Chevy have released three entire generations of trucks, and Dodge just announced its second generational change. Along the way the Detroit Three have also introduced new technology, advanced materials and a whole host of mechanical upgrades. That means each truck has gotten faster, more capable, more powerful, and more fuel efficient.

I’m not asking Toyota to suddenly develop five new engines. I don’t want to see a new carbon fiber & magnesium frame to save weight. I’m just asking Toyota to actually provide real tangible upgrades to a truck that we all love.

As it stands now, the Tundra that used to be the king of the spec sheet now sits towards the bottom. When compared to the V8 trucks from Detroit the Tundra now has lowest tow ratings, horsepower, torque, and fuel economy. From any direction you look at it, the Tundra is an old truck and it is in dire need of an upgrade. And it needs it yesterday.
