Literally Bombproof: Armored Land Cruiser 300

Armored Land Cruiser

Small arms fire, hand grenades, and even 15kgs of TNT are no match for this armored Land Cruiser!

Over the last decades, vehicle quality has improved dramatically across the board. But even as industry-wide reliability surveys have shown big jumps, Toyota is still known for producing machines which rate somewhere between the sunrise and a mother’s love. For example, it’s not uncommon for folks to refer to their rigs as “bombproof” or “bulletproof,” which is how I lovingly described my Corolla SR5. That said, in regard to this 300 Series Land Cruiser, those terms are less figures of speech than statements of fact.

Of course, our friends at Canada’s INKAS Armored Vehicle Manufacturing would likely want us to refer to this Land Cruiser as bullet and bomb “resistant.” Because while you can fortify a truck to the gills, there’s a big difference between small arms fire and a 50 caliber sniper rifle, or an improvised explosive device and say, the 21,600-pound “mother of all bombs” used to flatten compounds in combat. But that’s just semantics, and watching this beast of a Land Cruiser take a beating is amazing.

In this short clip, it becomes clear that if the going gets rough, this is exactly the kind of vehicle you want protecting you. Here’s the official breakdown of everything the testing threw at it:

The INKAS Armored Land Cruiser successfully proved its reliability in the field – withstanding over 780 rounds of ammunition from various caliber firearms, 6 roof-level hand grenades (DM51), 4 underbody hand grenades (DM51), 2 land mines (DM31) as well as a 15kg TNT (equivalent) explosion from a 2 meter distance.

Now, the closest I’ve ever been to a combat zone was riding my bike down certain streets in Los Angeles. And I can’t imagine wanting to do anything where I would even have the most remote need for a bit of kit like this. Holy crap though, is it ever fascinating to watch round after round slam into the glass of this beast. And when the 15 kilos of TNT go off? Wow! The blast is so bright you can’t even see the truck, and it makes me wonder if everyone inside would be deaf post-explosion. Check out the clip to see if you’re as impressed as I am!
