Importing a Pair of Toyota Hilux Models

Toyota Hilux

The fact that Toyota doesn’t sell the indestructible Hilux in the states doesn’t stop one YotaTech member from bringing two of them here!

It’s no secret that we here at YotaTech covet the Toyota Hilux. Because like anything in life you can’t have, you just want it. Well, that and the Hilux has a bit of a reputation for being virtually indestructible. So when we learned that 85toyman took matters into his own hands and imported not one, but two Hiluxs, we were intrigued. And rather jealous.

“I went to Australia at the end of 2015 and bought 2 Toyota Hilux ute’s while over there visiting.

The white one is a 1990 LN106 SR5 model with 315K kilometers on the clock. It has a 3L NA Diesel, P/S, P/B, and G52 5-speed transmission mated to the RF1A gear driven T-case. 3″ spring lift with Rancho 9000 shocks. ARB winch bumper, Warn M8000 winch, rear ARB bumper, IPF headlights with H4 60-80 bulbs, Safari snorkel, diff breathers extended, canopy, factory 4.30 gears with limited slip rear, and a 4.30 front with Aussie locker.”

And if that isn’t enough already, the OP wasted no time working on making additional mods!

“Since I got it back home, I installed the grill and parking lights from a US spec vehicle. I also installed a Warn winch and 33×10.5×15 BFG KM2s on Rock Crusher 15×8 wheels. IPurchased a complete A/C system out of a wrecked Hilux while over there, then shipped it back with this ‘ute. I will install A/C on this rig as soon as I have time to put it in there.

Soon I will bend up some metal for rock sliders and get an aux fuel tank installed, and then brush bars as well. I have also purchased an e-locker and an IFS rear axle. It will get cleaned up and an e-locker with 4.88 gears will find its way inside.

The limited slip will be then re-geared and installed up front, along with the wide axle kit I have for it as well. I also have an RHD IFS steering box and the first set of Zink plated high steer arms and the rest of the kit so I can put crossover steering on this rig too! I’m a dealer for Turbo Glide here in the States, so I will get a turbo system setup on this ‘ute soon.”
