1000+ HP 1977 Hilux is the Strangest Thing You’ll See Today

By -

Two turbos strapped onto a LS V8 with nitrous in a 1977 Hilux that is half rust and half Crown Victoria. This has to be good.

There are certain trucks which are unique builds. Then there are others that are just straight up weird. This 1977 Toyota Hilux might be the best combination of both of those things. As all of us know, the Toyota Pickup will never die and it can serve just about any purpose. The owner of this 77′ Hilux is Josh Mazerolle and he dubbed his project “Deathwish”. With the name like that, you better believe the car is going to be interesting. Thanks to HeavyMetalConcepts on YouTube, we get to learn a little bit more about how this nutty project came to be.

To start off, its nice to know that Mazerolle has been building Toyota trucks since he was a kid. The first project car he had was at the tender age of 9 when he did a solid axle swap and restoration of a 1985 Hilux with his dad. Since then, he has built a love over time for these wonderful trucks. This Toyota, obviously, is far from stock. It currents sits with a 5.3L LS-based truck motor with two turbos, nitrous, and a 4l80E automatic transmission. As if you didn’t notice, the turbos and most of the motor itself sit outside the hood. Doesn’t the blast pipe from the turbo block his vision while driving? We don’t think he really cares.

The suspension is pulled off a 2006 Crown Victoria Police Interceptor and it has an extremely wide stance as a result. In order to fix that, the narrow body of the truck has been been modified with giant fender flares that are home to 275 section width tires on all four corners. These flares have been welded to the body and are made of sheet metal and have seemingly been left unpainted to give the truck that patina character. As if not spicy enough, the addition of some aluminum aerodynamic parts such as a dual-element front splitter with foot long end plates really sets off the front end of this crazy build.

To call the interior bare would be an understatement. There is no dash, no instrument cluster, no nothing. Simply a rat’s nest of wires, the dash support bar, and a steering wheel. This is just the beginning of why this truck is so crazy. At the end of the day, Mazerolle says its not really the truck that he cares too much about, but rather the experiences that he gained and the people he met building it.

The story of the truck and how it came to be really is as interesting as its insane exterior, so we highly recommend that you watch the full video if the truck sparks your creative juices. You won’t regret it.
