4th Annual DeSoto Mine Trail run in AZ. - Saturday, 22 Oct 05
Trail Rating: 3.5-
Location: DeSoto Mine Trail, Off Senator Hyw between Prescott and Crown King
Trip Leader: Mark Longfield, AKA Crawler#976
Trip Date: 22 Oct, 2005
When: Meet at 9:15 AM, Departing at 9:30 AM
Where: Mayer, AZ. at the Circle K
Est. Length: All Day CB Channel: 4
Hey AZ Wheeler's! Another year has passed- time to go again!
This is an open invite to all makes/models-
Here's an opportunity to see some of the really remote back country between Senator Hwy and the main Crown King road. It's a roller coaster ride- near Battle Flat, one of the major battles between Miners and Apache's in the 1864 Indian Wars. It features one short section of boulder infested creek bed- not huge stuff, 12" to 24" loose creek bed stuff, steep, loose hill climbs, and some pucker power off-camber stuff. The trail is over 12 miles long, and takes well over 3 hours at the best possible pace. The trail is listed as difficult in the Charles A. Well's book of AZ Trails, but is not EVEN as difficult as Martinez Canyon. The majority of the trail is a two track thru pines, pinyon/juniper and scrub oak/manzanita brush country.
I will require vehicles to have at least a rear locker and a minimun of 2" of lift and 32" tires. Rock sliders are RECOMMENDED. These requirements will help us all to have a safe, trouble free trip.
I'd like to limit the total to 10 or 12 vehicles.
Plan on meeting at the Circle-K (they have gas pumps) in Mayer, AZ. on Hwy 69 approx. 10 or 12 miles west of the Cordes Jnct. interchange on I-17 at 9:15 AM. We'll be taking the Goodwin Road to the Senator Hwy, then to the trail head off FS Road 89. about 4 miles south on the Senator Hwy. Bring a lunch and plenty of water!!! It should be a nice cool trip-
I'll be monitoring CB channel 4
Later
Mark

I haven't been over the trail this year - don't plan on pre-runnin' it either, so it'll be a surprise to me too

Oh yea, Mark - I haven't had a chance to test out the new rear bumper yet... Maybe you can somehow help me with that in the creek section - not sure if there is anything that high though...

cool! Two spots left!
The Southwest TTORA crew is also gonna be on the DeSoto this date. Here's the skinny-
Mr. Baja (thank YOU) looked up the other groups departure time - they are meeting at 8:00 AM, so we'll be about 90 minutes behind them.
Theoretically, they should be clear of the rocky section before we arrive, if not, it should be the tail end of there group. At this point there groups is smaller than ours too, so they should make better time.

I have posted this run on two BBS's. At this point I think I'll close the trip to more rigs - gonna try to keep the group at a reasonable size. If anyone else really, really, wants to come along contact me via e-mail or PM for a waiver!
Here's the list from YotaTech:
BajaTaco, AZ4ME, I Love Tacos, SSchaefer3, tallboy
Here's the list from the other board:
Expeditions West, Goodtimes, Brittan, John S
a total of 10 rigs

So if you really only want 10 trucks....................
Although, they seem to be leaving the Mayer gas station at 8:00am.
Pretty lame. What an amazing coincidence.
As of now, barring any unforeseen problems and if this does not conflict with an all club run, I want to go run Desoto mine trail, been watching my video of it and made me wanna go. This run will be ok for trucks with at least a 2 inch suspension lift and 32's with no sliders, or stock with SLIDERS, and of course any combo above those, just no completely stock trucks on this one as there are a few rocks on this that could bite into you. It is up north and we would meet at 8 am up in Mayer at the gas station/ circle K ? on the south side, you can't miss it since mayer is 100 yards long. Those from the valley can meet and caravan on up at 7 am sharp at the Chevron/McDonalds at i-17 and Carefree highway. When you run this trail, you come out at Cleator, the 8 shack and one bar metropolis on the main road to Crown King. Hope you can make it. Uh well DUH! I guess a date would help LOL! Oct. the 22nd, that is a Sat.
