Am I getting screwed by insurance on totaled runner.

2 months after totaling my 4runner my insurance company state farm is willing to settle for 7600 which is okay but they are not giving me anything for the $7,000+ in aftermarket accessories. The only thing they're giving me is $300 for my tires. Now I asked if I could take off my wheels and other aftermarket stuff which i'd replace with something else and they said no. Is this legitimate. Can they screw me like this. Give me nothing for the parts and then not let me remove them

did you have your aftermarket parts insured? when you get insurance they ask you if your vehicle is modified. If you say yes, then you state what was modified and what that cost. You do that for each mod, even stereo system.

4runner was bought and insured 10 years ago as a 2wd base 4runner.
no aftermarket covered. All I really want are my wheels, tjm, and nerf bars.

If its still at the shop go in there and tell them you want your parts back b/c the insurance wont. First call the ins company and demand they give back your goods!

I just went through this last week - and some of you probably remember me posting about my 89 4Runner in this forum (yeah i know wrong forum).

I finally settled after the 3rd amount they offered. He was pretty impressed with all the receipts I had maintained going back to 1997 (I bought it in 96). In my final settlement, I told him I will accept the money but I want some of my mods because pretty much they don't care about mods at all. Mods to them are really considered "maintenance".

I could of taken my front Badlands bumper even though it was slightly bent IF I had a replacement. So yeah, he would of let me swap out anything and you should be able to if you can replace it. At least thats how the party at fault insurance company worked with me.

My truck was at an Auto body place.

I lost money for sure... but I got quite a few things and will offer them in the Classifieds section soon.

You still own your truck right now - if it is of value then take it. Play hardball - they always do.

If they hold the stuff as having no value it should make no difference when they come and take the rig any way. I say take everything off it. They are offering you no money for the stuff so they must not care.
You could always buy it back. and strip it down to nothing and sell all the salvageable parts.

just dont sign anything that lets them retain salvage. you can actually buy the car back pretty cheap if its totalled, and also get some money. and you should definitely be able to swap back to stock. or, if you have receipts and documents that can always help your case.

They did the same thing to me with a 02 4door taco.... I found out that you have first right to buy your truck back for 10% of the est. value. Witch is 700 dollars. that would be worth buying and parting out or swaping to another yota.

On my '98, I got all the stuff back that I had on it. but I kept all my stock stuff when I would change something and i put it all back to stock. I have State Farm too. The guy said I could swap all my stuff out.

My guess is they think they can talk you into giving up your mods because with all your mods on the rig, it will go for alot more at auction than a stock, base 2wd will.

Sounds very odd. When my 92 was totaled by fire I got more than I bought it for (bought it for $4700, got About 5K) plus a seperate check for aftermarket items I could provide a recipt for, and I stripped it of a lot of parts. My insurance, State Farm.

It was a piece too, had a lot of body damage and about 250K on the ticker.

Exactly. Im got about 2 grand more than I paid for my '98, and I got all of my parts I added.

They are trying to give you a bath, and not even in KY.

Thanks to ALL for the advice. I'm gonna try again with the adjuster to get some of the stuff off. I test drove an 07 FJ and 07 4runner today. Made me all giddy.
