New Mexico- Rio Puerco, Sat 3/17
Let's go do some off-roading NM guys! Let us not forget the owner's manual says you need to go in 4WD for a few miles each month to assure proper lubrication! Besides I need to get a little wheeling in with some YTers.
Albuquerque_Jim and I are planning a little excursion to Rio Puerco for this coming Saturday, from noon to whenever. The trail is located just outside Rio Rancho. It's a nice mix of obstacles, from easy to difficult. We'll be meeting at the air down spot at 12:00pm, and just go to whenever we're bored or tired. Bring your own snacks and drinks (no alcohol).
Stock 4x4's should be fine, modifieds should be able to pick your obstacles. I've never actually been to this place so maybe Jim can give a better description/directions.
Hope to see a few New Mexico-ites there for some good times.

From NM 528 in Rio Rancho take Southern Blvd. west to the very end...it turns to dirt, then ends at the dunes.
There are dunes, rocks and a river bed to run.
Here's a few poser pics:

Hmm, well Los Alamos is about 2 hrs from the northern border (I think, don't really remember), and Abq is another 1.5hrs from there, so I'd estimate about 3-3.5 hours, one way.

Oh, didn't know it was at ABQ. Well, thats out for this weekend, gotta be back on suday and mapquest puts it at 450 miles...Not bad, but i'd rather make a weekend of it...
I'll keep my eyes open for another NM trip...it'd be really cool to wheel with you guys.

Well, it wouldn't be bad for more notice...
A little less time to get there than to Moab, and i'm always down to meet new folks and wheel new trails.
I just can't swing it with only a day...I'd have to leave here at 5 am, get there at 10:30-11, eat, wheel, get back on the road, and be back around midnight...Too much driving for me.
But, if i left on another friday afternoon, got there late evening 9-10, got up, wheeled all day sat, then took off sun, that would be pretty sweet too.

I'll keep that in mind...
I know of a few things planned in the next few months in Farmington, probably a little closer even.
This was just a "hey you want to wheel this weekend, sure" kind of thing. No real planning involved.

I'm suprised no one has jumped on to talk about the Taco pulling the Chevy K5 Blazer off the trail. And by off the trail, I mean a few miles of hills, ditches, and dirt!!! We were all VERY impressed. You will have to see the pictures to believe it!!!
