New printer needed

As much as I detest those All-in-One Printer/Scanner/Fax/Copier/Lawnmower/Blowdryer printers, it seems that there are more of these available than simple, traditional printers.

I recently threw my old Epson Printer/Scanner/Copier in the trash after taking the whole thing apart again to fix a problem where a small silicone hose detaches and prevents the printer from printing. This is a well-documented problem online and I was happy to be able to fix it, but after the second time (and ink-stained fingers) the printer refused to power up again. So I tossed it in the trash. Sad for a one-year old printer.

Then I bought a smaller Epson Printer/Scanner/Copier last week ($99) that was slow as molasses and caused the computer to throw error codes. Fed up, I returned it and am now looking for a good printer for less than $300. I admit that I do use a scanner quite often, and need a copier function on occasion - so it looks like another All-in-One is needed. Do you guys recommend one brand over another?

I like HP but they can be pricey. Just stay away from Lexmark since they seem to be more problem prone than most.

we have an HP 6110 all in one. And to be honest it is nice. The scanner is great and it prints color pages real fast. Of course, cartiridges are expensive, but.....
Great printer and under $300 when I bought it almost a year ago

Guys,
I'm still looking. Any further opinions? For compactness, I'd really like another printer/scanner/copier, but if a better solution exists with a great printer and a simple standalone scanner, I'll consider it.

I finally found and purchased a new printer - the Epson Stylus Photo RX620. A bit more than I wanted to spend (~$300), but I'm happy with the overall robust construction, the easy-to use features, and the print quality. While similar in overall size to the the Stylus all-in-one that it replaces, this printer seems to have a completely different printing mechanism and uses 6 inks vs. 4.

All in all, I'm very happy with it. I printed a few 8x10 photos from my recent Colorado trip and the image quality is amazing. I'm also shooting with a new Canon 20D, so the pics better be pretty damn good!
