Best site to download music

What is the best site to download music onto a cd. I just finally got a CD-RW.
There are so many sites out there. What do you use. Thanks

I use WinMX, and it contains not an ounce of spyware in it.

You can also use Windows Media Player 10 for XP.
Use the search feature built into the player and you can get many a free tune in MP3 format.

Once you click to hear a song, it will also auto launch your default web browser and take you to a site where you can DL more songs for around .99 each.
This is MSN's Music Service.

The songs that do open up in Media Player you can go to the file menu and save them to your PC.

I know this might not be what you're looking for and a bit obvious - but ITUNES rocks and while its not free, knowing that you're supporting all the malnourished CEOs of the record industry just gives you a warm fuzzy feeling inside

Also, if you are looking for new bands try www.allmusic.com
the site is awesome and if you know bands you allreadyl like it will reccomend similar bands and it gives full reviews of all the albums, artist bio etc etc.

I like to find bands on allmusic.com and then sample them on Itunes to see if I like em enough to buy them.

hope it helps

More and more are coming back to kazza. I recommend doing a search for kazza lite has no spyware.

As far as pay sites don't do nabster they send you encrypted .wma files that alot of cd-burn programs have problems with, sonic and nero are what I use. mainly sonic since it's best supports drag and drop recording straight from any windows window.
wal-mart is acaully a good place to get downloadable music belive it or not.
. mp3.com is sorta shady won't do it again.

I have both Sonic & Nero 6.
Two very good programs.

In fact I find Sonic much easier to use than Nero for say backing up files to a CD-R or DVD-R.

I also use Sonic for my DLA so I can drag & drop files to a re-writtable CD or DVD.
Nero had a DLA prog too, but I am using the Sonic one instead.

yeah if you are going to go P2P - and not go through one of the new music services - then Ares is definetly your best bet - its a very stable platform, a simple user interface, and has a good is not sketchy like Kazaa or Morpheus. WinMX is allright, but has become less effective over the years IMO. I would suggest the Ares Lite version as it takes up less space and has no real unecessary add-ons.

but still there is something to be said, IMO, for going through Itunes and supporting the people that make this music - thats not to say I dont use P2P programs also, I just try and keep a good balance - and in fact the convenience of ITunes has led me to lean more towards buying the music lately. Still, the RIAA really needs to lower CD prices...10.00 isnt too bad, but 6-7 would probably bring people back to the stores much quicker than anything else

If you really want the tunes you should pay for it. You wouldn't want to work for free now would you?

Another Vote for Ares Lite. Its FAST, Easy to use and no Fake files. (cough Kazaa) Plus the RIA isn't all over it flooding the servers with fake dummy files and watching what people are doing.

I like to find some stuff that isn't mainstream sometimes. here are a few other sites that you can sift thru genre's and find stuff that you might like.

www.download.com
www.purevolume.com
www.sonicx.com

If you can figure out how to set it up properly, eMule can be a godsend.

iTunes.
The songs you want are only $.99.
You can listen before you buy.
You don't have to buy entire albums.
The music is yours, not rented.
You don't have to worry about the RIA knocking on your door.
It has the most intuitive interface.
It handles everything, buying, playing, ripping and burning.
Everything else is second best.

Doesn't mean there aren't any drawbacks to iTunes. But the positives outweigh the negatives.
