ATTN Geocachers! An FJ Cruiser Travel Bug? Your opinions!

A couple weeks ago, I participated in my first NGORGE (North Georgia Off-Road Geocaching Event). I had a blast! Not surprisingly, the majority of the attendees were in Jeeps. With 7/8 rigs on the trail, the only non-Jeeps were my 4Runner and an '88 Land Rover. Also, not surprisingly, there were a lot of Jeep 4x4 Travel Bugs.

Jeep owners go nuts over these things. There seems to be a bunch of these things floating around the SouthEast and Jeep owners snatch these things up and move them along before they've been in a cache overnight.

So this lead me to thinking...

Why isn't there a Toyota Travel Bug?

Certainly, Toyota wouldn't endorse such a thing, as they would just be following suit in line with Jeep. And I'm okay with that. But that wouldn't necessarily stop any player from starting their own Toyota Travel Bug!

With the addition of FJ Cruisers to the lineup, I was contemplating buying a decent number of Travel Bugs and attaching them to die-cast FJ Cruisers and setting them free. Not to make some noticiable impact on the Travel Bugs as they circulate the world -- but I thought it would be cool none-the-less.

With a small portion of YotaTech members that Geocache, I thought this would be a good place to drum up some opinions to see what ya'll were thinking.

I suppose I over-estimated the adventurous nature of YotaTech members.

Or perhaps that nature doesn't include Geocaching?

At any rate, I hit a new milestone. Logged two more Geocaches last night bringing my total to 100 finds. Both of those last night were first-to-finds! With my new milestone, I'll place my first Geocache. Location to be determined. Theme to be determined -- but I'm sure it'll have to include a jab at Jeep owners, just for the fun of it.

Hey! How about trying to get a TB (FJ) to another Yotatech person as a goal.

PS, I am near North Bend, WA. Geoname: MickeyLee

I see a guy on EBAY sells a BJ-40 keychain. Would make a cool TB, too.

Hey Yoda,

Good link, there. I'm just not willing to spring ~$20 a pop just for a Travel Bug. Unfortunately, I haven't found any FJ Cruisers yet. Found a mess of 4Runners and whatnot here and there. But I haven't decided either way.

Haven't done any caches in North Bend, but have several under my belt in the Bothell/Woodinville area.

My Geocaching Profile.

Sounds like a good idea....

I thought aboot getting some sort of diecast Toyota 4x4 (seems like aboot the only ones out there are the Johnny Lightning BJ40s - which is EXACTLY what that guy on ebay just stuck a keyring to...) to use as a TB to enter in the annual Cannonball Run TB Race....

The race was started by my friend Jim (aka CBR2005), and starts here in Western NY, and runs to So Cal...

Kinda fun to follow...They set up a seperate website with race updates, stats and pics, so you can follow the WHOLE race, the WHOLE time...

http://forums.groundspeak.com/GC/ind...cannonball+run

http://members.localnet.com/~linsal/CBRWelcome.html

OK, so this year's run is from Portland, OR to Bangor, MN, then finishes in Buffalo, NY...

I might get in on it next year....
Maybe we could enter a Toyota Team....

I should get back into geocaching, it's fun to go roving the wilderness (or city) looking for some random little treasure

Once I get the GPS module for the psp, I'll start geocaching... sounds sooo awesome. I'm waiting for the particular gps module so I don't have tons of different devices, whereas my psp will be able to perform many functions at that point... but the bug thing sounds really cool... would they get mad if Toyota guys found some? hahahah
