Anybody have a CB?

Thinking about getting a walmart cb for my truck. I had one for my old truck and worked great. I would like a SCAN feature though. Can anybody recommend me one?

Thanks

IMHO the Cobra 75 WX ST is the best CB for the small cab of these rigs, heck I am even going to put it in my Full Size Dodge it works so well.

Yeah, I could hear my aunt 5 miles away EASILY in a deep dense forest. I'll probably just get another one. I could hear truckers at least 15 miles away. Its actually a pretty amazing little CB for the price

got a uniden pro 520xl here. But realistically transmit/recieve range all comes down to one thing- the antenna. I had a crappy antenna on there at first and was lucky to be able to hear truckers. Upgraded to a firestik and I am constantly on there talking and what not.

Radio was 40 bucks

Where did you get it at? How much was the antenna. I bought mine from Joes and it was mounted to me fender sticking out of my hood...and I liked the look of it bouncing around

Isn't there like only a couple wires to hook up? That would be pretty lame to pay someone to install it...lol

haha yea but most people wouldnt think bout modifying the dash..even my dad didnt like the idea and you have to set the SWR for the antenna so you dont burn up the radio.

you need an swr meter to trim the antenna for lowest reflected power, i.e. best impedance match. otherwise your radio wont transmit or receive very well and it can damage the output section of the radio.
be sure and follow the instructions. WallyMart sells a little Cobra that fits right into the DIN slot under your DIN stereo in a first gen... its nice, built in speaker fires out the front, and it has weather bands too.

I just installed the wal-mart cobra, and it works really good for the price. Fits really good also.

I just got a Cobra 18 WX ST II from Amazon.com for $65 and I love it:

http://www.amazon.com/s/ref=nb_ss_gw...WX+ST+II+Cobra

Amazon was offering free shipping too. I also picked up firelfly 4 ft antenna for $27.

I like this one because of the size - its a single DIN, which same size as a standard size car stereo. Also, I really like the front firing speaker. Most that I have looked at have a bottom firing speaker, so that was huge for me because I run my truck 99% of the time with no doors or the roof, so being able to hear clearly is super important to me.

I just finished the install and I'm planning on posting some install pics soon.

my cb is an cobra 29 with the night watch, weather, and sound tracker, and the antenna is a radio shack 8' whip, and i have easily talked over 1000 miles away bearfoot (without a linear) with the skip in, i could talk over 20 miles regular during the day, but if you don't want an 8' antenna the firesticks are a good choice... just remember to set the swr to keep the radio from burning up, and the lower the swr the better you will talk, and farther you will talk

but now i moved on from cbs to ham radios... now i can get on the radio and talk to all over the country and to others

I got mine at the local napa. But In all realism my antenna did at least 2x as good between me tuning it and a CB shop tuning it. For 5 bucks I'll let them tune it from now on.
