You are correct there. My single TI 12 with about the same power raped the ลลลล out of my friends 3 MTX 12 8000s.

while an improvement in equipment helps a lot, a huge difference also lies in the box....

When I get my 4runner back I need to hit you up Bumpin' for a custom box. I will soon be running 2 TI 12's with 2 MTX 1501D's on each of them.

Cool beans! I got a new table saw to use too!

I have a very special place in my heart for eclipse's subs - maybe it's because my first 'real' subs were 2 8815.6 aluminums.

yep the box is being built as we speak, somewhere between 4-6 cubic feet tuned wayy low by a local guy here in town that has an amazing 99 highlander on 22's, custom door panels with all the goodies, 2 dub7 13.5's with more power running to them than you can shake a stick at. oh yea the box's port says jl and everything is color matched to the car and leather.

You may find that super low box tuning isnt always the best. I initially tuned my Home theater sub to 22hz but after listening to it and running some tone through it with a signal generator I was not pleased. Sure it was good down to 22hz but it lacked in other areas. The computer models dont always mirror real life physics and in playing with my home sub I was able to eventually cut 40-50% off my port lengths (two 3" flared ports)and Im still strong to 26hz but Im much stronger above 26hz than I was initially. I have never been one to play with tuning freq but now Im sold I only use computer simulations to get close I do the fine tuning with a signal generator and listening tests.

FYI... I run my home theater sub with a Mackie 1400I (1400 RMS)and for the sub I use a TC sounds TC3HP version bought at a Trade show. It will handle 3kw and has excursion limits just beyond 3" PP.

Its just a little 12" for the home but I will show it off since I have nothing to put in my truck yet

Yeah Yeah I know some day I will get around to finishing it but for now Im still in the testing stages.
I guess the bright side is that no one is going to steal it?

Ive seen that highlander on cardomain. I wouldn't make the box any bigger that 4 cu ft. My single 12 box is about 2.5. If its for a single 15 i would make it near 3.5cu ft.

Dexter - that box would be quite a bit large. The box size should be finely dictated by the power you are applying and the tuning dictated by the material that you are going to be listening to. Ideally you want the power your are applying to be able to push the sub juuuust enough to get close to maximum excursion without distortion. The tuning should be low enough to reproduce the lowest frequencies that you'll be listening to but not cut off the upper bass frequencies... With too large a box you will loose power handling and end up stretching the snot out of the spider... With too low of a tuning you get great low end extension but at the cost of the upper frequencies. I once constructed a ported box for a 88150.4 that was 3.75 cubes tuned to 18hz.... It played the sub-audible frequencies with AUTHORITY, but it sucked total balls on anything over 40hz. It got much better as I raised the tuning to 27hz.

Ganoid - I wasn't aware that TC sounds produced a 3hp. I knew about the TC4HP which is absolutely huge and is employed by the Team RF subs. Do you know if that 3hp has been dumaxed?

The cone, surround, and dustcap look mean. Is that a 9" or a 10" spider? Does it have a 3" or 4" coil and are we looking at an 8 layer or 12 layer coil? (TRF's use a 4" 12 layer, so im not sure what the 3hp would use.) I assume a 12 layer 4" to have that kind of rms power handling.
