Good Home Stereo Reciever

I'm looking for a good home stereo receiver, my current one is an old technics from around 2001 that is crapping out on me. I haven't kept up on whats good so I'm looking for some pointers.

From what I've seen so far the new receivers are boasting great picture and what not for video but I really couldn't care less about that, all i want is great sound quality.

I'm wanting to keep it under $300 but could go more if its a really good set up.

I've always though Harmon Kardon or onkyo were good but they are just so high priced.

Anyway if anyone has some input it would be appreciated. I'm gonna continue to do some research but some real world opinions would be helpful.

I have had a Pioneer Elite receiver for 6 or 7 years and absolutely love the thing.

As an example, here's what you can find, used: http://cgi.ebay.com/Pioneer-Elite-VS...QQcmdZViewItem

We use pretty much Denon receivers for all our systems.

I cant even begin to count how many of these things I have out there.

The 1508 is pretty much a very entry level model. but it does still have a few useful features.

Entry level Denons sound pretty good. Entry level Yamahas, though, I've found a bit too harsh.

Thanks for the replys. I forgot about Denon, my uncle has one and it sounds great. From what I've looked at the onkyo 705 sounds like a good one but its a lil bit more then I want to spend. I guess anything would be better than what i have now though. I'm gonna keep lookin but any input is still appreciated.
