Give me some feedback. Taco sub box ideas.
2 10's... going to be a sealed box.
I have two ideas in my head for a box, one being like this. https://www.yotatech.com/forums/show...2&postcount=24
I'd have a clear plexi top with the amps underneath though.
This will take awhile since I'd be doing a lot of fiberglass work.
Or more of a (clamshell) box with the subs more or less facing each other but pointing out like in the shape of < as a center console for the rear. Amps would probably go on the sides under plexi.
This would be easy to build.
The back "seats" are tight and even my 5'4" g/f has a tough time sitting back there unless she sits across. If I sit back there, my kness will dig into the seat and make in uncomfy for the front passenger either because they are too far up or the seatback is basically vertical.
What should I do? Any other ideas?
I will be starting sometime this weekend.

Okay, what would you do for this project.
Seat or console?
I see drawbacks with both.
Seat will have the subs low to the floor and maybe get kicked or wet, and the console will not allow people to sit across the seat, but the subs will be protected.

Thanks man... At least someone replied this time.
I think the console would be easier.
I was going to use fiberglass to follow the tranny hump and other curves.

The subs?
There is barley room for kickpanel enclosures for 6½'s with the clutch.

There is always this way. http://www.xtremekreations.com/fabrication.html
I am not too fond of the idea, plus you have to cut the panels.

One of the funniest things I ever saw in the old IASCA days was the guys from Brooklyn's Best Audio talking about Earl's BMW. In case you don't know what you're looking at there, Earl Zausmer took the drivers out of a set of B&W Nautilus 801's (if you have to ask, you can't afford them). The woofers were mounted in the inner fenders, and the outer fenders were hinged so you could look at them. The mid/tweet pod was motorized and dropped into the dash when the system was off. When you turned it on, they rose out of the dash and then turned towards the center. He ran milbert tube amps in the trunk and supposedly very little/no equalization and signal processing.
I never had the pleasure of listening to it, but apparently it was frickin AMAZING sitting in the driver's seat, and equally horrible in the passenger's seat. When they changed the rules to use scores from both seats, his winning percentage went way down, but there for a while he couldn't be beat.
Anyways, back to the topic at hand...Don't be scared of the fiberglass. While I would recommend it, it's not even really necessary. Just seal the sides to the bottom of the truck with some caulk so it will be airtight and use the truck's floor as the bottom of the box. Be sure to secure the box to the truck - you don't want it shifting around as people get in and out of the back. Protect the subs with some grilles, and they'll be OK. Don't worry about the water/dirt on the outside. Just clean them up every now and then.

I'm not scared of the fiberglass... I made nice kickpanels before and I was very happy with the result, it's just that it took awhile to make them.
As for the subs, I'd have them recessed and on an angle pointing slightly upwards to where you won't really see them, if that hump the seats sit on doesn't interfere. I have already thought about cutting that seat hump out, but I don't really want to alter the truck much. It's there just for jack storage behind passenger and another identical compartment behind the driver. (except if I get parts from a wrecked Taco and use those parts to cut up)
I am still deciding what I want to do with the front doors and the 6x9's.
Either get 6x9's or a set of components with 7" or 8" midbass'.
Decisions, decisions...

I was just looking at stuff from Illusion last week... it looked like they were still around and people still have some of their stuff in stock (if they did fold up)

It's only limited by your imagination!
You could cut a walkthrough and put in a wall. 8 - 12's (two rows of 4) with a big slot port between them looks nice. LOL

I'm looking for some other imaginations out there.
No cutting... I am trying to keep it "stock". If I were to cut stuff, I'd cut all the sheet meatal out that supports the seats in the rear.
I'm still debating on if I want to cut the doors a little to fit 7's or 8's.

I don't want people back there, but it's going to happen.
Sqaure box is so easy toooo. I want it in fast and see what it sounds like.
It's looking like a possibility now.
and thanks for the feedback so far. Last time I had 80-something views and not one reply.

This is what I did. I unbolted the sheet metal frames and took them out completly. I didn't cut anything so that in the future I can put them back in if needed. The sub enclosure site about 3 inches higher than the original bench. Works like a charm and the seat belts are still in original locations with out any adjustments. I have 2 alpine 10's in the box.
Here are the pictures. I will have to take some of the completed box. Looks great and sounds killer.
