89 Extended Cab - rear speakers

I've done a search on this but found no definitive answer. What size speakers fit in rear side compartments for an 89 Toyota Extended cab? I'd like to be able to fit something that can handle a little bass in there, as the 4" in the dash aren't quite cutting it Thanks!

more bass = subwoofers.

i wrote many times where i personally dont like rear speakers, especially so close to the drivers/listener's ears.

they tend to drag the image to the rear part of the vehicle.

when was the last time you went to a live musical event and then turn around to face the rear?

my recommendations has always been:

* biggest and best damn speakers speakers you can afford/fit up front (doors makes great locations)

* biggest and baddest amp to power the front speakers.

* rear subwoofer to compliment the front

* kick ass amp to power subwoofer...

3 channels.

joke: subwoofer??? dont even know her...

My dogs and work gear will often be riding in the backseat, which is the reason I can't really do a sub setup. At least mounting rear speakers won't take up any of the room that I really need

Any one got the size that fits from the factory back there?

I've got 5x9s back there now. I've measured it and 8''ers will fit but you have to watch the depth they will need to be shallow those big ass deep box ones won't fit because of the back of the box there unless youuse some mdf and cut a large "washer" to go between the speaker back and the wall of the truck. Something else you may want to do when installing the speakers is to glue some foam 'egg-crate' to the inside of the cubby in the wall where the speakers are to go this will clean up the sound by eliminating the 'echo-chamber' effect of the empty box. Hope this helps Aviator.
