1st gen 4runner rear bumper

Started the rear bumper today. This will eventually be a tire carrier bumper. Thus the reason for the 2x4 square design. We need a flat surface to mount the roller bearing for the swing arm.

Any pictures of how you mounted the rear bumper to the fraim?

I could see a potential for getting caught on stuff where that wrap around meets the rear section. Any thought to adding a flared piece to act as a ramp to slide you over obstacles? Could also act as an additional gusset.

There is a gusset below that. Not sure I understand what you are saying.

Looking at it again I see that your gusset might be enough to do the job. What I'm thinking is to add metal to the side to to direct the truck up and over an obstacle. (represented by the red line) Otherwise one might catch a boulder or tree branch/stump in the corner. (indicated by the green arrow)
