Well, I'm still interested depending on the price of the parts.

Tell me about it.... I still want one, but it's getting it to work that is the daunting part.

i was looking at a land rover disco today at work and it got me thinking, what about mounting it to the hatch and using some heavier duty shocks to lift it up?i have seen ones rated for 300 lbs. i know it was shot down once before using the roof tire holder on the licence plate holes, but this looks a little more robust, and has a backing flange, only thing is clearing the window mechanisms and changing the bolt pattern:

at 30 bucks or so, looks like a possibility for the lighter tire sizes, stock, 265's, 285's maybe?

I don't think you could let down the back window with that and I think the weight of the tire is too much for the rear door. Nice idea though.

ill pop the panel off tomorrow and see what it looks like, and try to look at the landrover and see how it is mounted as well. the sheetmetal door isnt that thick, and the ladder flexes like crazy when i was pushing and pulling on it. only difference is the door swings instead of going up... ill look and see though.
