Cb Install

Yo,
What tool are you guys using to cut out the plastic where the ashtray is ? I bought a Cobra 19 CB and want to stick it in there...I've seen a few people on here do it but cant find any write ups , etc.

Its for a 3rd generation 4runner.

Thanks a billion.
Tim

I used a small hacksaw (just handle and blade - no back bone), but others will say a dremil...

dremel with a tungsten carbide bit, works great and doesnt melt the plastic too bad.

else you can use a razor knife to carefully score through the abs plastic.

Cool...after that are you guys just basically just stuffing the CB in there with some foam tabs to keep it tight and no vibration or are you actually mounting the bracket inside the hole ?

Cheers!

i used aluminum strap cut to make a bracket for my sat radio reciever there. I am hoping that my cb will fit under it too. post a pic when done though.

EDIT. i unbolted the ash tray, didnt have to cut anyhting. it does have that little hump there. not sure how different it is from a 99 to a 96. my moms 2000 is alot different though.

i just used the dremel with the regular cutting blade and then foam double sided tape strips to secure it in there. it was solid as a rock

I just drilled a hole on each side of the opening (inside the astray mount hole so you cannot see the bolts) and put the right CB bolt through and tightened it then put the cb in place and installed the other bolt... Snug as a bug....
