95.5-2001 Tacoma SAS
I recently sold my 98 Tacoma and I really regret it, but im trying to find a late 90's Tacoma that I am going to perform a SAS on. I have been reading up on the different ways to do it, and I can't decide which will be the cheapest and best way. We have done Solid axle swaps to late 80's IFS trucks and early 90's, but none Tacoma swaps. I heard Marlin Crawler came out with an adapter plate, in which you can couple a gear-driven T case out of a 80's pickup with a Tacoma tranny. This would put the pumpkin on the passenger side and therefore allow you to use the 8" Pickup front end out of a 80's pickup. Im thinkin this would be cheaper than the All Pro setup in which a dana 44 is used. And I would rather have the yota front end. Please let me know which you think is the best bet and any problems that can occur when doing the SAS.

As for best and cheap, you can have one or the other not both. If you want cheap, then you can do that. You want best, it will be the most expensive. Just the way it is.
The tried and true way, which isn't the best as far as performance is concerned, but works well enough, and is "relatively" low cost is to run leaves up front. Probably need to build a custom hangar, fab up your own shock mounts etc....
As for a toy housing, i'd say go for a diamond. Completely custom, 900 bucks.
You'll probably be really really close to that same price if you want to do an adapter, and swap in the gear cases, and all that hassle to run an inferior housing to the diamond one.

older 4 runner and pickup axles are narrower than a tacoma rear axle, either find a grand waggy 44 or what id recommend is a full width 44 out of a 78, 79 ford f250, waggy's are the same width as the rear 61", full widths are 69"

My friend has a dana 44 out of a bronco or 150 which is the same, but wouldn't the tires stick out past the finders? That means that the axles would be 4 inches outside of the fenders. Do you have any pictures of a full width Dana 44 under a Tacoma? Thanks

these are the same axles im putting in mine, d60 and 14 bolt but with smaller tires, theyre the same width as the full width 44
