2nd Gen 4Runner Lower Link Skids

Saw total chaos's for the 3rd or 4th gen(forget which one) and was jealous much so i decided to fab my own up. What do you guys think. Made from 1/8 inch steel took me about a half an hour to make the one drivers side. Ill make the other tomorrow. Friend's dad owns local powdercoating shop so ill clean them up and send them to him. Pretty heavy duty, we'll see how they hold up.

Keep in mind this is coming from someone who basically ripped one of the link mounts off the frame...

Just like the FJ Cruiser ones, I think this design is BAD BAD BAD. It does nothing but transmit the force into the mount, and actually acts as a damage multiplier.

I have personally repaired 2 FJC frame end lower link mounts with these kinds of skids.

If you want to do it right, remake the link mount out of 1/4" plate going up welding to the side of the frame instead of the relatively small amount of weld at the corner.

what are you saying to do? weld the whole assembly to the lower link mount? (was planning on doing that eventually just test different ideas out.) or are you saying to strengthen the skid up? its as strong as it will get. everything is welded thoroughly on all seems. lmk all input is appreciated.

he is saying to plate the entire lower link bracket with 1/4" plate all the way to the top of the frame rail.

i havent had any problems with mine, they are the front hangers for my leaf spring swap on my 90 4runner, and get alot of abuse.

best pic i have of it.

those fail usually at the weld to the frame so you have to bridge that joing and weld to the frame. while your at it strengthen the upper link mounts on the axle, they also like to rip off the housing.
