Talking Wild Country TXR tires

I got my set of 35 inch TXR's in the spring of 2003 and have never been highly impressed with there dirt traction. But while on a trail run yesterday I noticed these tires do sweet in the snow. I aired down to 20 and know if I had aired down to 10 I would really have gotten around. I have factory gearing without lockers and had very little problems. I impressed a heep owner that was fully outfitted and had issues with the snow run. He was shocked to hear me tell him I still was running factory gearing after seeing me outwheel him in some areas. I was shocked at how well my rig did. Go Toyota!

I am on my 2nd set of these sized at 31x10.5x15, and my next set will be the same brand no doubt.

A few seasons back a bunch of us hit Greenwater for a Fall Colors run, and there was a lot of snow on the FS road up there.

I was one of the few who did not slide around at all.
I even tried spinning them on purpose in 4WD and could not break them loose hardly.

Most excellent tires for ice, snow, dirt, and rain.
Deep tread too.

I was going to sell my TXRs & wheels to get black rims with MTs but I think keeping these as winter tires is the best option. Corey, you only have 31's? I always thought you were running 33s. Are you lifted?

I'm lifted 2" all around via T bar crank up front, Downey HD coils in the rear.

Will not be going to a bigger tire on this rig.

Most excellent on the road.
I have had my current set since about '99 I think, and the tread is barely worn down.

It's hard to get these to skid going around a corner, and as stated, they are great in the snow.

Nice deep lugs on them.

Sipe them like I had done to mine, and they are even better in the rain, snow, and ice.
Siping adds more to the tread life of the tire as it also makes them run cooler.

You'd have to call one of the stores to see if they would ship them to you, as they are mainly a Pacific Northwest chain tire center.

PS...
My next set will probably be the same tires, as they wear very well.
I have zero complaints about them.

My only complaint is....

Yesterday we were up exploring some trails on Badger Mountain. It was pretty dry at the base and then we ran into MUD. Mud is fun but with TXR's its not fun being it cakes up very bad. My buddy & I came up on a Bronco 2 that passed us while on a hill climb down the mountain. He was on a side stretch of the trail diggin in. Well I didnt want to get to close to him while passing so I went into SHOW OFF mode. I went into a ditch on the left side of the trail that had lots of mud. My brain thought boggin through it would be cool but reality set in. I could bog through it back and forth as I did but I couldnt get back out. I went up fifty yards and it got deeper and deeper setting my rig at an extreme angle and I back up fifty or so yards getting the same result. So sadly enough I needed the help of the Bronco 2 guys. They came to me after seeing my dilema. There idea was to push on the drivers side front while I cranked it and it worked. But that entire stretch was sloppy cakey mud and thats what I hate about my TXR's.

I've always had good luck with Wild Country tires. The TXRs are my next tire for sure. Best of all they are more affordable than Goodyear MT/R, etc. $139 for the 265/75/16 size.

I don't know who actually makes Wild Country tires, I'd love to know. I recently got 3 opinions on the TTORA board from 3 people claiming that they were made by Kelly, Multi-Mile and General. One added that "Cordovan, a sister to Multi-Mile, makes a very similar tire. Kelly may be the parent company." FWIW...

I used to run the Wild Country RVT's on mine. They're a great looking and riding tire. They're also excellent off-road. Check my webshots account for pics of them.

I think it's Gateway, the same company that makes the Buckshot Mudder.

Actually, several different manufacturers make tires that Les Schwab sells. The TXR's are most likely made by Avon. Other chains sell the exact same tires under different brand names. Wild Spirit, for example, is another brand of tires sold in the midwest that are just like LS's brand, Wild Country.

Toyo makes an Open Country AT that LS sells. Les Schwab also sells other Toyo tires designed for cars. The Toyo tires not re-branded, they are sold as Toyo.

The display model said "multi mile" and Wild Country but the actual tires say wild spirit.

i'm loving them so far.

Huh, I went to Schwab to fix yet another screw in the tire incident, and while I was there I priced out tires. I was told by the salesman that they were not making the tires anymore and that they had been replaced by the SXT... Odd...
