Valvoline maxlife?

Valvoline maxlife?
Has anyone got any feedback on this oil? I need to do an oil change this weekend and have heard from friends that this has worked well for them. I am kind of skeptical using a synthetic oil in my truck because I have no idea what the previous owner used. (conventional/synthetic weight etc.) The truck is a '94 22RE w/110k miles on it.

Is there a legitimate reason why you shouldnt use syn after regular? Its highly possible im just ignorant about this, but I havent heard that before and def have changed back and forth in other vehicles.

no idea, all i know is the syn leaks through places the regular might not. and also I've heard that most wear on an engine occurs during the first 2500 miles....or somethin like that.

Wasnt aware they had a non-synthetic version. Its funny, when I went on the Valvoline website they have a section where they tell you what oil is right for your vehicle and they told me I should be running maxlife synthetic.

Bob is right, use the regular Maxlife. My old Mazda started smoking like a SOB (worn rings) and I changed the oil with the Maxlife and 90% of cleared up.

I've been using Maxlife (non-synthetic) for a while now. No problems at all. 4Runner has 191,xxx miles on it, and runs great. Does have a few oil leaks, but that has been there since before I switch oils.

Well its decided then. Conventional maxlife for me
Now I just have to figure out what weight to run. I have a noticeable valvetrain chatter and have heard that heavier oils reduce the noise significantly.
What weights are you guys running?

arizona shouldnt get too cold, so 20-50 should be fine
however, heavier oil will just mask noise, valvetrain chatter can eventually lead to a engine failure and if its that bad, you need t ohave it fixed properly
